House Judiciary Committee Republicans released a much-ballyhooed “1,000 page report on FBI and DOJ politicization” Friday morning, a pre-election-timed preview into life under a Republican House.
My first question is why would Democrats not just do what Republican did, including Jim Jordan himself, and just ignore any congressional subpoenas? I mean it is Republicans who have set the stage for arguing it is all political and there is no legislative reason and spend the next two years dragging it all out without ever having to testify.
My second observation is as terrible as this is, even worse is their economic agenda, stealing the savings of every working American contained in the Social Security Trust fund and giving it to billionaires. Furthermore, Republicans plan to force Biden into agreeing to all of this by refusing to raise the debt ceiling which would cause not only a world wide economic collapse but also America to lose its hegemony.
Paul Krugman ended his column today on this very subject with:
"Finally, how do Republicans imagine they could pass any of this agenda? After all, even if they do win the midterms, they won’t have enough votes to override a Biden veto.
Unfortunately, we know the answer: If Republicans win one or both houses of Congress, they’ll try to achieve their goals not though the normal legislative process but through blackmail. They’ll threaten to provoke a global financial crisis by refusing to raise the debt limit. If Democrats defang that threat, Republicans will try to get what they want by making America ungovernable in other ways.
Wait, was that woman interviewed with her partner named Enola Gay?
The guy at the end was great. I wish there were many more like him. I’d be glad to listen to his republican ideas and debate with him if I only knew that he believed in our democracy above all else. He’s an American first, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be.
It’s also a glimpse into what the next two years could look like, should Republicans flip the House and put the Judiciary Committee in the hands of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), currently its rankingrankest member.
When do people call this what it is…cry baby crap. These guys piss and moan about “unfair”, “censorship” and “politicized” like children. How is that tough?
If Congress refuses to raise the already unconstitutional debt ceiling, Joe should just say ‘look, the Fourteenth Amendment says you can’t do anything to put the full faith and credit of the US into doubt. And that’s what they’re doing, so, c’mon man… let’s get real here. The United States isn’t going to default on our debts because we’re constitutionally prohibited from doing so.’ and just keep on spending as needed to meet the obligations Congress legally requires him to meet.
I would suggest that the GQP would probably not be as complacent about the enforcement of these subpoenas as the Dems have been. The Dems have always (and sometimes to their detriment) been collegial and cautious about all this legal activity; the GQP have absolutely no qualms about hauling people to the nearest prison within five minutes of the deadline expiration.
I can also see the GQP bludgeoning weaker Dems to override the Biden veto, given that the GQP have vigilantes that would track down family members to ensure a vote - don’t say it can’t happen; it did just a week ago with Mr. Pelosi.
We’ve seen how the GQP economic agenda worked in the UK. We don’t have the same safeguards here - simply asking the PM or anyone in authority to resign and have new elections. We’re stuck with it for at least two years and, by then, who knows what will be left?
The GQP wins next week and the world changes - not for the better. If anyone you know is thinking about sitting out this election because of whatever stupid reason, talk them out of it.
