In High-Volume Press Conference, McCarthy Musters Fury That Pelosi Blocked His Jan. 6 Picks

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), flanked by his equally stony-faced picks for the Jan. 6 committee, railed at top volume against the “lame duck” Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for barring Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Jim Banks (R-IN) from serving.

I’ll start this off with my only thought on this:

FUCK KEVIN MCCARTHY

If only he’d had an opportunity to control more of the terms of engagement here. Wait, what?

IANAL but a lawyer’s old adage seems appropriate: “If you have the facts on your side, pound the facts; if you have the law on your side, pound the law; if you have neither the facts nor the law, pound the table.”

Or, in the case of McCarthy’s motley crew of saboteurs; pound sand.

I ask this of all who understand how Congress works better than I do:

What ability does the minority in either chanber of Congress have to establish its own investigations?

If one is set up, does it have any access to funding, staff resources beyond those personally attached to members of such a group, ability to comandeer meeting rooms, security personell, etc.?

Would it have any power to compell people to appear?

Does it have any power to issue contempt cititations, etc. if people refuse to appear, testify or submit evidence?

In fire and brimstone intonations, McCarthy and his appointees decried Pelosi for ruining the institution of the House, for committing an unprecedented suppression of minority rights.

BWA HA HA HA HAAAAA.

“an unprecedented suppression of minority rights.”

We’re starting to detect toxic levels of irony in our body politic.

“I’d be concerned if I was a majority member right now,” Armstrong said, threatening that a GOP speaker could one day wield the same crushing power Pelosi does now. “Because the map, the math and their policies are gonna help us take back the majority in two years.”

Of all the things that could lead to Republicans taking back the House - none of those reasons are map, math, or policy.

Am I the only person here thinking that they’d heard that same argument back in grade school?

WHOLLY SHIT

And GOP refusing to give a Democrat SC nominee is just chopped liver.

I stand by my initial post, McCarthy just reinforces his assholiness every time he opens his mouth

McCarthy knew that Pelosi has the power to decide who gets to be on the committee. He was given the power to consult with her as to who he would like to see in the slots reserved for Republicans.

Q’evin did not respect the authority given to the Speaker and attempted to ‘appoint’ people without even talking to her. His attitude was extremely disrespectful. She called his bluff.

“Benghazi” was clearly nothing like and so much worse than January 6th. For one, it wasn’t “our peeps” doing the attacking.

I don’t think they have any ability to do that at all. Nor do I believe for one single second that McCarthy is even remotely interested in conducting an investigation.

That’s how I interpret Pelosi’s reaction to McCarthy’s tantrum:

Pelosi largely shrugged at the threat, pointing out that Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) participation makes the committee bipartisan either way.

You gotta admit, they have the ‘faux outrage on command’ shtick down pat,
