Impeachment Manager Pays Moving Tribute To Late Son: ‘Not Going To Lose My Son And Country’ | Talking Points Memo

For Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), there’s more than meets the eye in taking on the role of the House’s lead impeachment manager after President Trump incited the deadly insurrection at the Capitol earlier this month — a violent scene that occurred the day after Raskin laid his late son to rest.

There is an attack on the Capitol and an officer is dead. Leaders are in hiding from a terrorist mob trashing the building searching for them. The mob wants to hang the Vice President.

Meanwhile, 1.2 miles away, the President is in the White House. Does the secret service immediately escort him to a safe room? No. He’s watching TV above ground.

Why not? He’s not in any danger. Why not? Because the terrorists were in his service.

I am sorry he lost his son but welcome his passion: too often we have seen the passion of the unworthy, it is good to see it worthy here.

With apologies to Yeats, “The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.” – not this time.

I hope he takes on this task with a vengeance.

I can only imagine how devastating the loss of a child must be - like the end of the world. I hope that fighting against Trump, the Republicans, and fascism gives him a sense of purpose where he can channel his thoughts and energies. He’s the right man at the right time in American history.

Never has the expression "kick his ass into next week " (meaning trump) ever been more applicable.

Oh, lordy yes. My heart breaks for him and his family, I simply cannot fathom the pain.

But good on him for working through the pain in this constructive fashion.

Someone posted a tweet to the effect that if Giuliani is Trump’s lawyer in the Impeachment trial, Trump will surely be convicted.

Are there really no laws against this sort of open bribery? Would not any pardon found to be purchased in this way not be invalidated? This completely shatters the very purpose of granting pardons.
