Is Putin really that much shorter than Abe? Wow!
I think that it once was more than spin, however imperfect it might have been, but that when the Likud murdered Rabin (hyperbole I know, but true enough) they not only murdered a real chance for a peaceful solution to their problems, they also murdered Israeli democracy, and Israeli statesmanship.
All those leaders from the 40’s and 50’s and 60’s were forged in Hitler’s fires. Bibi et al were not. All they learned was fear and hate and contempt for people that they had so hammered down that they really don’t have a way to step up without a lot of help from the grown-up states.
Israel is not a part of that, we’re rapidly disappearing from it, so whose left? Russia? China? Germany?
Global warming extinction can’t come soon enough I sometimes think.
Apparently, what he lacks in height he makes up in chest.
Netanyahu threw out the soup, but kept the chicken.
(I’m a lifelong Atheist, but both my parents were Jewish so thanks in advance for sparing me any potential antisemitism shaming).
Can you impeach the motherfucker?
What @cervantes said, calling out ill doings requires membership in no particular affinity groups.
Israel is a country and we ought to be able to separate it enough from Judaism to talk about the country and the government without the nonsense.
We talk about Saudi Arabia and Iran and Dubai without getting accused of being Islamophobic. It’s a total red herring to accuse someone of anti-Semitisim for criticizing Israel. Everyone who lives there isn’t a Jew in the first place.
I agree with all that, but even on this most tolerant of boards there are those who don’t or are hypersensitive, just heading them off at the pass.
Yeah and I’m just agreeing with you - if it didn’t come out that way sorry.
Rep.Omar should chill, and enjoy the ride for all it’s worth.
Soon, they’ll all be dead, and she will be a committee chairwoman.
sometimes words can be sooo confusing, just ask cheatolini, that’s hwy he prefers pictures - my bad.
No worries. hahahahahahaha I didn’t address it specifically and probably should have made it more clear.
But, but! Speaking about impeachment is too premature, surely! The Dem Congress said so!
Let’s wait until he buys Greenland: https://politicalwire.com/2019/08/15/trump-wants-to-buy-greenland/ (not linking to WS Journal because - no).
Re “the only democracy in the Middle East”:
Since the beginning – circa 1948 – there have been three distinct and somewhat contradictory forces acting in Israeli politics: (1) the felt need to be a “Jewish state”; (2) the felt need to “be secure”; and (3) the stated desire to be a democracy.
And since that same beginning, virtually every time these three forces came into conflict with each other, the conflict was resolved at the expense of democratic values.
One could elaborate but I am tired, so for now I will just recount what an old friend of mine wrote, not long after the state of Israel acquired its “Occupied Territories”:
In ‘The Greater Israel’ … there will be no Jewish worker or farmer. The Arabs shall be the working people, and we will become a people of managers, inspectors, officers and policemen, and mainly … secret policemen; and [the country will] by necessity become a police state, with the [secret police] being its central institution …
This will affect the spiritual and moral atmosphere in the country and society, it will poison the educational system, and it will stifle all free and critical thought — and all that will be in the Jewish part of the state.
In the Arab [part of the state], the Israeli government will build concentration camps and hangman’s trees. There will be terrible corruption. The subjugated Arabs will try to bribe the Israeli officials in order to obtain licenses, documents, travel passes, and the like, while we will [bribe] Arab leaders in order to buy ourselves Quislings.
This corruption, characteristic of any colonial regime, [will] be true for Israel. The [government] will be forced to deal with the suppression of an Arab protest movement and the acquisition of Arab Quislings. [Perhaps] even the army, and its officers, a people’s army, will deteriorate by becoming an occupation army, and its officers, turned into military governors, will not differ from military governors elsewhere in the world.
My friend wrote this decades ago. By and large he was right – and his detractors, by and large, were wrong.
Incidentally, he also used to say that Nazis could sprout again anywhere if the right toxins were injected into the political bloodstream. Whether he was right about this is left as a not-so-cheerful exercise for the reader.
Bibi = Trump’s New B****h
Not only Revisionist Zionists but Russian immigrants destroyed Left Zionism by propelling Bibi to power.
Maki?
You’re asking about the old friend whose warning I transcribed above?
No, he was not a “joiner” in that sense.
He was, however, a scientist, a historian, and a philosopher – and a devout Orthodox Jew who fought until his dying day for Jewish humanism and the separation of state and religion in Israel.
I miss him and think of him a lot, especially around this time of year, on the anniversary of his death.
This Likud government has declared itself an enemy of the Democratic Party.
Elected Democrats need to stand together on this. All/any of them that were going on this trip should publicly cancel the trip, and any foreign aid should be removed from the budget.
As a Zionist are you against a Palestinian state in presently Israeli occupied lands? Where should the Palestinians who were driven from the area go if not back to the land they once lived in? Not trying to be confrontational, just wondering what their options should be.
