Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Thursday responded to news that she and Rep. Rashida Tlaib would be barred from entering Israel after President Trump urged the country to keep them out.
Putin, Netanyahu and tRump. I never thought I’d see such a horrible trifecta of authoritarian ambition and malignant narcissism that we are all now a witness to. I just wanna add, as a Jew and a Zionist, it breaks my heart.
I think the argument that “someday Democrats will be back in power and Bibi will regret this” makes several dubious assumptions (starting with the fact that the D’s will be back in power, or even that “power” will be a thing when D’s are back in office–talking to you Moscow Mitch), but… Jesus, as a Jew who has seen a lot I never thought the state of Israel would come to this. They are just ripping up their “only democracy in the ME” spin and pissing on it.
Worth noting here that one of the things Omar was demonized for as the basis for all this is that she claimed that she felt pressured to show allegiance to Israel, which was supposedly an anti semitic “trope” because it was so outrageous to imply that any Republican in office would put that government’s wishes above citizens of the US, let alone pressure her to do the same.
“The irony of the ‘only democracy’ in the Middle East making such a decision is that it is both an insult to democratic values and a chilling response to a visit by government officials from an allied nation,”
The Russian people have lost any hope of democracy and elections in the foreseeable future.
But on some beautiful, joyous day that will come, decent Americans and Israelis will finally flush the twin turds of Trump and Netanyahu down the brown-stained Kleptocrat Commode of History.
And those two floaters can’t swirl down that bowel soon enough.
Bibi folded like a cheap suit in about an hour. Bibi looks like the toady he is who dances on Trump strings. Omar and Tlaib are now the aggrieved parties who are duly elected members of Congress whose stature just increased among the left. When AIPAC says you should not do something and you do it anyways that is pretty bad.
You may not want to speak about it – but what special qualification do you think is needed beyond some basic regard for truth and justice and the wide variety of human experience?
