I would like to speak about it, but don’t feel confident about my knowledge. Thirty years ago when I was in Israel I thought I knew what it meant in a general sense, but heard from from both Israeli Jews and American Jews that Zionism is more complicated that I thought. So, out of respect for a declared Zionist, I declined to proclaim an opinion. “Qualified” was probably the wrong word.

As Josh just noted in an editorial, “Punishing or excluding them is a strike against our democratic system. An ally should never do such a thing.” … When was the last time Israel was an actual ally of the United States and not a frenemy? We’re are just there for their taking IMO.
With allies like Russia, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, who needs enemies?

One has to wonder who is the bottom in that pair. Trump is much more often the manipulee than the manipulator. Trump is always reactive and never has an original idea of his own. If anyone is pulling strings I’d bet on Netanyahu long before Trump.
I’m almost ready to believe Putin that Russia had nothing to do with interference in the 2016 election. It begins to become quite credible that it was done by Mossad using the GRU as cover.

One complication that is lost to time is the fact that there used to be a left-oriented Zionism that acknowledged and tried (to some extent) to respect the rights of Palestinians.
In comparison with that long-discredited strain, the Zionism we see in Israel today is essentially a right-wing phenomenon – and aspects of it have even been judged fascist by the Israeli Supreme Court, the country’s Election Commission, and other credible observers.

Leave it to Netanyahu to behave like an old Soviet leader who would bar elected officials from fact finding missions and those who advocated for Jewish refugees.
There are plenty of Americans who while they support Israel and the long time bi-partisan consensus are kind of tired of being brow beat about it and are put off by Bibi and Trump stunts like this as well as the “stick it to Obama” Bohener invite to address congress over the Iran Nuclear deal.
Many people of various ethnic backgrounds and of Omar, Tlaib’s and particularly Ocasio-Cortez’s generation feel hoodwinked about the Iraq war and Israels tacit support for it since their friends and neighbors were sent there and have suffered the consequences from it.
