Alphonso David has been fired as the president the Human Rights Campaign over his involvement in then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s attempts to take down one of his accusers.
That’s not something that can ever be proved, absent video and audio of an alleged incident. It’s the preponderance of evidence, and the manner of both accused and accuser.
If Cuomo was defensive and his accuser seemed credible, that’s enough to encourage a resignation.
The evidence we do have is extensive and uncontested, unless you count a “Nuh-uh” from Cuomo as evidence, which personally I don’t. The state of the evidence was such that everyone in New York State politics felt comfortable turning on a very powerful, formidable and vindictive politician, who ended up resigning. That should tell you something, too.
When this all gets to court, whether as a civil or criminal matter, you’ll see proof to an even higher evidentiary standard, I’d be willing to bet.
I haven’t followed the details of Cuomo’s ouster, I was just speaking in a wholly general sense. But yeah, resignations do not happen in a vacuum. If I was falsely accused by someone, I would stand my ground and calmly state so. Cuomo’s behavior after he was accused was damning enough.
Cuomo was essentially the Republican governor–as Republican as a NY governor could be, that is–and like a true Gopper loved nothing more than a bogus organization that generated bogus credentials for its officers. His favorite, I suspect, was the IDC–the Independent Democratic Caucus–a group of corrupt turncoat Ds who gave control of the NY Senate to the GOP. Cuomo sponsored all of that. NYC’s mayor-elect Eric Adams is cut from exactly the same cloth, unfortunately.
Cuomo didn’t exactly deny almost any of the accusations, excepting a couple very specific ones which just happen to be the ones which would be criminal in nature, just said that people misunderstood him.
The discussion has gone in a different direction, understandably. But commenting on the thrust of this article, the HRC board appears absolutely justified in firing the former president.
I can’t imagine why David thought it was just peachy to provide backdoor information on an accuser to Cuomo - his former boss - without telling the board. And now he plans to sue because they “can’t silence him.” Someone clearly things more highly of themselves than they do the organization they are supposed to lead.
Funny. I can point to a hundred posts where you viciously attack me for pointing out the same problem with other Dems not named Cuomo. About time you got on board.
There’s a radio personality here in town who says things that are inappropriate - then immediately announces that “I know you’re going to complain, but just shut up. I’m Italian that’s what we Italians say (or do)”.
