How The House Managers Will Show That Trump Provoked On The Mob On The Capitol | Talking Points Memo

The first big theme the House managers will tackle Wednesday is how former President Trump provoked the Jan. 6 attack. Then their presentations will cover the attack itself and the harm it did, as Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO) laid out to the Senate.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1359312

Are any GQP Senators even present? Awake?

This January 6th Rally support all started just days after The Lincoln Project trolled Donny with ads (starting 12/8/20) in DC informing him about how itā€™s Pence who would preside over 1/6/21.

It still burns me that anyone so cowardly as Chump would talk about ā€œfighting like hellā€ and ā€œit takes strength, not weaknessā€ etc. And his folks are just as cowardly as he is. Shooting up unarmed groups, death threats to children and spouses, kidnapping unarmed politicians, bombs and molotovs, etc.

Chump told them over and over he would be walking down there with them, but didnā€™t even try to fake that as he ran to his hidey hole and watched it all on tv while gleefully crapping himself.

One of the differences between Trump, Trumpā€™s rally, and the ā€œfieryā€ language he used that day, in juxtaposition to Dems pols language in speeches is that they werenā€™t talking in front of a crowd, gathered in DC, the place where Congress was going to accept the stateā€™s certification of their elections.
Trumpā€™s lawyers can play as many speeches from others as they like, but then they would have to show that the other factors of otherā€™s speeches were similar in place, and message.
I maybe wrong on this but I, or anyone can yell ā€œfireā€, but if I video tape it at home and post to FB then itā€™s not the same thing as yelling it in a crowd.
Setting and audience matters.

Worth noting: While they posted that advert on their YouTube page, and tweeted it to their followers on twitter, they did, in fact, pay to run it on Fox News in the Northern VA/DC Market. It had an intended audience of precisely ONE.

The House Managers are prepared, convincing, persuasive, and impressive in stating the case.

ā€œThis is the only president in American history who incited an insurrection against Congress that could have resulted in assassinations and hostage-taking and, conceivably, the cancellation of a free presidential election and the fracturing of a democracy. Thatā€™s a fact, and it wonā€™t change in 50 years. Itā€™s very hard to think of a scenario under which someone might imagine some wonderful thing that Donald Trump did that will outshine that. He did, literally, the worst thing that an American president could ever do.ā€ ā€“ Michael Beschloss, Presidential historian

Right now, the House Managers still have to be nice and persuade GOP Senators to convict, even if they are aware that it is unlikely.

That will not be the case afterwards

Trumpā€™s words and actions, that of his followers and GOP inaction will be forever.

Rest assured these old GOP men are wide awake and shifting in their seats.

Mostly from their enlarged prostates and raging hemorrhoids.

Neguse gave a preview of what his team will present about how Trump provoked the riot on the Capitol. He said that it was ā€œpredictableā€ and ā€œforeseeableā€ that the mob that showed up in Washington that day would be violent.

This was so predictable that experts on autocratic regimes were telling everyone back in 2016 to watch out. Yep, predicted that long ago; although Benadick Donnieā€™s team was not advertising the exact date in 2016. But sure enough, when Donnieā€™s team started to announce the date, they said watch out January 6th.

I believe they should impeach and attempt to convict not just Trump, but everyone who aided him at every step. After all, he couldnā€™t have done this alone. People like the acting Secretary of Defense, Peter Navarro, Kash Patel, and so many others should be investigated, and if found guilty, should never work in government again.

My problem is that speech was icing/candles on cake. They had already planned & funded the insurrection on Capitol. Lots of evidence shows that. Trump just lit the match on the cake candles. A cake already baked, funded & bought by his cult.

My question is why did the Republicans run when the mob attacked?
They, the Republicans, like the mob are all Trumpā€™s people.
How could they feel fear from their own?
