How The Far-Right Made A Martyr Out Of Ashli Babbitt | Talking Points Memo

“Her name was Ashli Babbitt.”

That’s the refrain that echoed across forums used by the right-wing fringe in the late hours of Jan. 6 and in the weeks after she was shot while attempting to breach a final hallway on the other side of which members of Congress were sheltering.

Ah, but they’re shedding zealots daily - the 6th was the big show. Now it’s just whacky evangelical Armageddon bingo and the internet tough guys.

“Million Martyr March”? Jihad much?

This bull shit is typical for the RWNJ’s including Donnie, while victimizing they proclaim themselves victims. It’s a world upside down when an insurrectionist against the United States government becomes the object of sympathy. It’s bull shit.

All of this came as many feared that further, Jan. 6-style attacks could come at state legislatures or other government buildings around the country. Organizers of a supposed “Million Martyr March” or “Million Militia March” tried to use her likeness to promote a Jan. 20 march on Washington, but that fizzled.

Because enough people finally figured out what being a martyr involved.

One less fascist. I don’t feel bad she got whacked. Trump has indelibly brainwashed these people. There is no getting through to them. Not. Ever.

I have come to the conclusion that these fascists shouldn’t be breathing the same air or sharing space with the rest of us, so however that’s accomplished, be it with a bullet for being a terrorist, a stroke, cancer, starvation from capitalist induced poverty, whatever, is fine by me. Just as long as they’re gone.

I wonder if the police forces at the state level are taking this stuff as seriously as they should…some number of them support this stuff, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t interfere with an insurrection movement at a critical moment in the future. We’ve already seen a couple protests overrun state capitol buildings, the next time might end up much nastier as the right wingers egg themselves into action.

It’s almost inevitable that there will be a shooting confrontation between the right wingers and forces defending the government…when it happens a lot of people will die, and all it will do is ramp up the violent tendencies of the right wingers. Maybe it will turn enough Americans of to get the Republican party off their current track to authoritarianism, but I doubt it.

Too dainty. The art of martyrdom is way more graphic than that. Remember Trump said the bullet went through her head.

When will they add a halo and complete her sanctification?
It was, I believe, part of the traditional iconography for European martyrs.

Her name was Ashli Babbitt.

Shades of Fight Club… But Ashli was not Bob

Actually if you think about it, they are using the whole Fight Club playbook. The first rule of the Insurrection is you don’t talk about insurrection.

So Stand Your Ground is only for some people but not everyone, got it.

The short answer is one big NO! They should have known this and planned for the potential insurrection the day that Bonespurs took office. They’ve all been sitting on their ass as the fascists plan for yet another, as they would have it, “patriot party.” This stuff needs to be snuffed out by whatever means necessary because they plan on using whatever means necessary to accomplish their goal of installing a fascist authoritarian dictatorship. These fascists (let’s call them what they are) are a clear and present danger to our way of life.

Only in their own frigging minds she is a martyr; she is not.
There no question how; they just declared it.

As soon as Ashli Babbitt was shot and died, all the others basically ran, their “enthusiasm” gone… Like the Lt. who ran towards the Germans from his trench in WWI and was shot and killed and all his mates ran away. Cowards all. They actually didn’t think all those armed individuals holding guns defending the Capitol would shoot.
