How Ken Paxton Went From Teflon Ken To Being Impeached By His Own Party

O what a garden of charming details, Josh Kovensky! You remind us of what Molly Ivins once entertained and educated us with again and again. The fun of Texas politics is in the particulars.

“Paul was born in 1987 in Victoria, Texas, a small city between Houston and San Antonio. He is one of three children of Dr. Love Paul, a physician, and Pearl Paul, a real estate agent. Love came to America from India in the 1970s with $8 and a medical degree, Nate wrote years ago on LinkedIn.”

BTW, just a general observation and it’s just my opinion, but because of various historical and cultural factors going back almost two hundred years now, I’m not sure Texas has yet joined the Union - in spirit.

If my understanding of this situation is correct, is it fair to say that we now have one very corrupt Republican down, and only hundreds more to go?

Funny how if you break enough laws even the Republicans can have enough (with the exception of Trump).

Is there any reason to think that Mrs. Paxton would have to recuse herself here?

Good point:

My guess, It was ultimately about failure of his good ole boy organs.

And yet the goobers want to be reelected
I suspect there are many others in the Texas state government who are just as corrupt as Paxton.

So the next questions are how did Nate Paul and Ken Paxton meet? Why did Paul become Ken’s pet donor? Did other donors to Paxton get the same protection plan?

That is the image that caused me to vow to never spend paper money with Mnuchin’s signature on it. When I get such cash I take it to my bank and exchange for any other Secretary of the Treasury’s signature. I have shown this image to the tellers at my bank and to a person they agree that the look on Mnuchin’s wife’s face is one of haughty disrespect. For the female tellers it was her black gloved hand over his that sealed it.
It is my personal boycott

Great piece by Josh - I had lost track of the details on the Paxton corruption(s). I also wondered “Why was this the straw that seems to have broken the Texas House GOP’s back, after so much scandal from Paxton over the years?” Was it Paxton asking the legislature to pay the settlement for the lawsuit? I always ponder where any red line might lie for the GOP - usually finding none…

Perhaps they just have that deep personal connection of buddies, like Clarence Thomas and Harlan Crow.

What female can resist Paxton, when he gives you that side-eye and little wink. He wears his perversions on his sleeve, and when he gives you that signature leer…your womanly knees buckle and all caution is thrown to the hot Texas breeze as he sets you up with a one-bedroom closer to the Capitol…

Gov Abbott will appoint a loyalist to replace Paxton who will push his (Abbott’s) fascist agenda. I prefer an incompetent crook to a competent fascist.

Get the guy out any way you can, I suppose . . . but the idea that only that request for money from the state triggered the impeachment, and not Paxton’s crimes themselves, is truly shameful–and, even more so, that Trump and Cruz still lobbied on Paxton’s behalf.

It has provided and education for some young bank employees and stimulated their curiosity about money. Coin and note. I’ve shown them how coins have changed. Recent quarters compared to those with the eagle on the back. Compare the depth of the coin strike image of Ol George. Recent coins look like they are Monopoly toy money
