How Christian Nationalism And The Big Lie Fused To Fuel Doug Mastriano’s Candidacy - TPM – Talking Points Memo

So lets just give up, shall we? Stop fighting for justice and wallow in our misery. Why even try, when they always seem to bounce back and keep coming?

The biggest villain in this are the cowardly Republicans who knew (and acted) better in the 1980s and 1990s and fell prey to succumbing to Donald Trump.

Exhibit A:

Mitch McConnell (Lawrence O’Donnell’s video-recording of McConnell acting 180 degrees differently in the 1990s).

I guess nothing’s a stretch when “God’s man in the White House” (blech) is the least worthy, least qualified, least respectable and least respected waste of carbon to ever taint the office and the nation.

Trump’s motivator: “I hate who you hate”

Trump is about himself…that is his domestic and foreign policy

Ugly…and possibly even biblical.

A nutso Christian Nationalist fighting an uphill battle to beat down a moderate Jew could get very ugly.

I sincerely hope the consequent internecine war will not be brutal and debilitating to all parties… :crossed_fingers:

And don’t forget that since Fetterman will probably be the candidate (people have already voted by mail), his likely opponent is the despicable Dr. Oz. What a perfect opportunity for the media to question Oz about Fetterman’s health. Will Oz remain professional or will he pull a Bill Frist and comment? Judging from his ridiculous TV commercials (in one he says, “As senator, I’ll fire Dr. Fauci.”) and his previous promotion of questionable health products, I’m not expecting much along the lines of professionalism from him.

To Oz’s credit, he already commented quite positively about Fetterman’s health.

Wow! I’m impressed. I only “know” Oz from his campaign commercials. That’s definitely a sign that the campaign might not be too ugly. Thanks for pointing that out.

Neither one is the official candidate yet. I expect things could change as early as Wednesday morning.

I am too. Strangely, I think that Oz, the unexperienced millionaire from NJ, is the least of horrid Republican candidates for PA’s senator.

It may be just me, but the picture of Mastriano with the red thing atop his pate makes me think of Zippy the Pinhead.

Does Trump know that his candidate revealed a strand of humanity? Has he retracted his support yet?

I left Pennsylvania for good in 1982. Before I left I saw how the Religious Right was infecting the churches and the infection took hold in my relatives. Mom and Dad were heartbroken when the rest of my family got swept up in that crap. The rest of my relatives turned into hardcore Republicans who worshipped the ground Pruneface Reagan walked on. They are solidly behind Mastriano and Krazy Kathy.

What churches did to them is sickening. Because of them I will NEVER step foot in a church for the rest of my life.

It’s time to kick these Pulpit Pimps off of the Tax-Exempt Gravy Train.

TAX THE CHURCHES!

Do these guys, when they say the election was “stolen”, ever provide any usable (in court) evidence to back up their claims?

Never.

Exactly. I’m thinking about the mid-term election in November.

I live in PA. It’s pretty wild to drive in the country north of Philadelphia and see all the Confederate Battle Flags flying in people’s yards. Unfortunately, many of them will probably admit to being racists.

We’ve got to think and trace back to why many of these folks got radicalized. We do know that many of them feel left out of the mainstream, seeing job losses in rural areas, etc. Rather than do something about it, they kick back, pop a beer, and watch Fox News. They need to know what their other options are.

Which is sad when these folks live within a few hours’ driving distance from Gettysburg, PA.

Don’t forget - the Repubs are just relying on their understanding of how easily their voters are convinced by the BS message of the day.
