You’ll recall that this fall House Republicans on the Oversight Committee spent weeks getting really worked up on Fox News about how Hunter Biden was defying their subpoenas and evading congressional testimony as part of their bogus impeachment inquiry into President Biden. With the impeachment push, Republicans were supposedly less interested in Hunter’s personal life, the details of which had obsessed them at other times, and more in various airy and Giulianiesque allegations trumpeted in the right-wing press, speculating that Hunter had been involved with a bribe that was paid to the President himself.
Go fish! Time to impeach that ancient arsehole Chuck Grassley for years of spurious allegations leading to Hunter’s inquisition (once the Dems take the US House.)
Not that it really mattered, all that matters is moving the metaphorical ball down the field. They knew it was a sham to begin with and they just took it as far a they could.
Their superpower is that they have no shame, that and lust for power.
Let’s face it. You basically have a moron (Comer), an exploiter of underage girls (Gaetz), and a suspected sexual abuser of young men he coached (Jordan), asking stupid gotcha questions that they’re afraid to ask in public, because it might make them look like larger horses ass(s).
House Republicans Suddenly Chill With Public Hunter Biden Testimony—Now That They Officially Have Nothing“
Here’s an earlier take on not entirely dissimilar situations, but with a comparable cast of characters (who at least have the strength of character to be ashamed.)
Comparing those unprincipled cynical scoundrels to even a very very bad doggy is pretty unfair to the canine.
If the House GOPniks were any kind of dog, they’d be the kind that tears up joggers and small children, not paper, and ends up getting shot by an animal control officer.
I guess the question is why? The Republicans already have their deposition. And they agreed to make it public. They had their time to ask questions, and they did not learn anything new in a few days.
I guess they can hope to catch Hunter Biden in a small discrepancy they can spin as a lie, or they continually subpoena him until he finally refuses to go along with the charade, then charge him with contempt. But it is really hard to see this as going any better for their cause the second time, and keeping their efforts on the table is more likely to backfire in a go around than the last, which did backfire.
I suppose it is like the addicted gambler that has lost but keeps doubling down on his losing bet thinking it will get better even though the cards are same.
I think Hunter Biden should break a norm here and turn the table on the Republicans on live TV in exactly the same way he did behind closed doors. He should commit contempt of Congress.
Nope. Expulsion, per. U.S. Const. Art. I, sec. 5, requiring a two-thirds vote, or censure, as Senate rules provide. We don’t have the numbers for the former, and while the latter requires only a majority, I venture it’s unlikely.
Separately, not long ago, Iowans had a fine Senator in the person of Tom Harkin. And now look.
