I was kind of out of pocket with Walker when I moved to Wisconsin, but in general I think he was pretty much an unknown quantity when he tried to run for President. We know what we’re getting with InSantis because he tells us who he is every single day.

Now what I could absolutely see is them blasting past regular per diem limits on food and miscellaneous expenses lines on reimbursement due to “having to stay” at those resorts, and managing with generous receipts that aren’t itemized to get the government to pick up their bar tabs.

Yes, and it took Treasury a few days or a week to turn them over. But even assuming that they were released the same day, they’ve only had them for 5 weeks. That’s not letting months go by.

Well, it would be transactional. The repayment far larger than the debt and so forth.
But one thing he is good at is getting otherparties to give people money for his benefit. This keeps him outside of it all and still accomplishes the expected result. And if it isn’t money, it can be things like nicely rewarded positions for example.

Yes, it matters tremendously that DeSantis is a tepid glass of water in a primary election determined by voters looking for straight-up grain alcohol pumped into their veins. DeSantis is fundamentally boring. Somebody is going to hand his ass to him at the first debate and he’s just going to stand there stupidly trying and failing to think of a reply, and then his bubble is going to be over.

Not only do I agree with this, I’ll go further. I think performative cruelty has passed its “sell by” date. More and more, people are tiring of the rudeness and incivility that’s become somewhat commonplace in society, especially during the Trump years. I don’t think that’s a winning strategy for 2024 because people are sick of the constant chaos, uneasiness, and divisiveness of Trump.
On the other hand, there’s not a Republican alive who can out-empathize Joe Biden.
