House GOP: Give Us Everything We’ve Ever Wanted And We’ll Extend The Debt Ceiling … ‘Til March

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) unveiled his long-previewed ransom note to free the debt ceiling hostage Wednesday, a maximal list of far-right proposals that he knows are nonstarters with Democrats.

It makes absolutely no sense for Joe Biden to negotiate with Kevin McCarthy because McCarthy has no real power to do anything including getting a debt ceiling increased.

As I was first, let me add a picture or two.

Hat tip to Ms. Riga for a humorously written piece. Honestly, you had me at “Ransom note.”

This is turning into a ransom of the red chief situation. Lock Qevin into a SCIF with MTG, bobes, and masty gaetz until he’s willing to bring up an unencumbered debt ceiling bill.

Just for good measure have “It’s a Small World” piped in on a continuous loop.

And, of course, McCarthy will bask in the gratitude of American voters when the dollar is no longer the reserve currency.
Doubtless, he figures they’d drop dead from pleasure if our currency’s value were pegged to the yuan or ruble. /s

This is waaaay off topic, but I urge everyone to read the gut-wrenching story on the NYT web site about the Crime Scene Investigators who witnessed and recorded the horrific scene at Sandy Hook. I’m halfway through it and I’m quite shaken

I want to see the House GOP blow themselves up.

I think it will be a valuable exercise for corporate America to finally side with the party that has really helped their bottom lines over the past 4 decades: the Democratic Party. There’s little doubt at this point that on questions of social values and issues, corporate America aligns with the Dems. They just still have it in their heads that the Dems are the pro-tax/hyper regulation party, when what we’re looking to do is to have clear rules of the road that balances consumer/employee vs business rights and allows everyone to make a lot of money. We provide a pathway for economic growth, stability, peace and prosperity. The other side provides chaos and Christian white nationalism. They’re also not a fun group to hang out with.

If the economy tanks because of fucking with the probity of US T-bills, Biden will get the blame. Just like Carter got the blame for high gas prices that were caused by OPEC.

and — based on data from Arkansas, which already tried this — it also won’t meaningfully improve employment!

Yes, but won’t it drive down wages as more compete for the same low skill jobs?
I mean, doesn’t that count as a win?

I would hope not, but must consider it in the realm of the possible.

They put into writing and talk about what they want but don’t know how to get it done.
Once the American public understands what they are trying to do and rebel against being screwed by the GOP, again, they back off and do nothing.
