Did Smith first have a private conversation with Pelosi about his preference on this issue? And if he did was he rebuffed? Why the hell air your differences in public before exploring them privately? The need to present a united front to the voters is manifest, yet Dems can’t manage to pull it off.

There is a calculus to the Speaker’s position. The articles of impeachment should be withheld as long as it is efficacious in painting a picture of craven Republican Senators too cowardly to exercise the obligations of their oath of office. The Turtleites don’t believe in Checks & Balances they need o=to feel some pain and some fear for their political lives. They need the shrunken section of their brains which hosts their ethical compass to be reactivated from its dormant state.
I will add that the I don’t believe the withholding has been particularly effective in changing the media narrative. The messaging needs to be blasted that the American people will only accept a fair trial with the right to call witnesses and subpoena documents, that no American is above the law, that this is not just a matter of law, but the most basic ethics

Would the following work? The Dems reopen impeachment hearings and call Bolton to testify. They use the material either as another article of impeachment or send it as an addendum to the Senate with the current articles with a renewed request to call witnesses during the trial.
