Hitting the Weak Points: What To Expect from Trump’s Defense

Are you trying to out do @ralph_vonholst with “bafflegab”? It’s a lovely word I need to remember.

I hope we’ll look back at the 2024 campaign and see that this was the moment when the TMFWWNBNH’s staff’s utter incompetence began to be apparent, and that it was followed by a series of equally idiotic moves.

Most of us already knew that.

To the “earn my vote” contingent: ball’s in your court.

Back in 2016, a couple of long-time family friends, libertarians but fairly progressive on many issues, wrung their hands for months before finally casting votes for Trump (they hated Hillary, and I can’t remember why the Libertarian candidate was a non-starter). From there, it was a short but slippery descent into Q-anon and MAGA territory. Now they have alienated even their closest and oldest friends.

I remember thinking at the time, what difference it would even make for the choice they were so agonized about. They had houses in both Texas and Oklahoma, for heaven’s sake, so it didn’t matter which state they chose to cast their vote in or which candidate they threw their vote away on. The presidential race was a lock in those states already.

It’s just one anecdote, but it’s something I have thought about quite a bit. Libertarians are susceptible to many of the tactics and arguments that are responsible for today’s GOP. The first and foremost being, believing you are better/smarter/healthier/richer than those sheeple who just don’t see the light like they do.

I hope trump 's lawyers make fools of themselves and their client.

And that the jury finds trump guilty of all 34 felonies.
I hope to see him in jail

Blanche’s thousand yard stare, the look of a man who knows he pissed away his good name by attaching himself to Trump.

As Judge Merchan told him he, Blanche, had lost all credibility with the court, meaning with the judge.

I’ve heard of pandering, but this is ridiculous. Offering oil executives free run at government policy in exchange for a billion dollars to his personal war chest and now offering to spring a convicted felon for a Libertarian Party endorsement. Which really makes you think he sold national security secrets to foreign governments for personal gain. If Trump has a limit that he won’t cross, I certainly haven’t seen it.

trump said he coulda won the Libertarian nomination had he chosen to. I would rather he had because then we’d be assured he’d get 3% to 4% of the vote in November leaving 90%+ for Biden and that would be fine by me.

I heard Beau of the Fifth Column point out that if there’s a party that’s full of ideologues, it’s the Libertarians. They believe what they believe even when taken to its absurd logical extreme. So for Trump, who’s anything but an ideologue, to go in there transactionally with a grab bag of goodies, was a stupid idea destined to fail. His campaign should have known this, and the fact that they didn’t means either they’re incompetent or just that desperate.

“These are not the smartest guys. And things got outta hand.”

Ho’s for MAGAt bros.

I have literally never met a self-avowed Libertarian who I assessed to be a serious thinker. They’re people who believe that if they’ve memorized their favorite clauses from the Constitution, that somehow makes them “smart.”

They’re mostly privileged assholes unaware of their own limitations.

Of course he did. And Jack Smith can prove it. Someday, after we GOTV and beat Donald like a junkyard dog at the polls. THEN we send him, and his foul spawn, to prison.

To a point @becca656 made earlier about the dearth of coverage:

Just now – it’s 5:30 on Memorial Day – I checked the NYT and WaPo and could find nothing on the several Memorial Day events President Biden held or was featured in today, including laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. (Each paper had some Trump stories, though – of course.) If I missed something, that would be because any stories about our nation’s president and Memorial Day have already been relegated to “back pages” of the online editions. I caught a bit on TV earlier today, and someone here posted links to coverage. But at 5:30 I had to go to The Guardian (U.S. site) to read about it, and it was their lead story.
