J.D. Vance, the author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” a memoir aimed at presenting himself as a conservative intellectual who rises above toxic hyperpartisanship, is apparently scrambling for the approval of MAGAland as he jostles for outgoing Sen. Rob Portman’s (R-OH) seat in the packed-GOP primary.
How is he going to delete all the pics of his beautiful brown wife and their gorgeous brown babies? Because that’s what’s going to keep him from winning the GOP nod in OH.
A fundamental aspect of any bigotry is the idea that there are “good ones…not like the others”.
If he can shamelessly kiss that flabby orange ass, then his cognitive-dissonance may just get him over the Deplorable Finish Line.
Not all Trump voters will let their “economic anxiety” stop them from supporting whomever Cult Leader feels has sufficiently puckered up to his ghastly backside.
Don’t underestimate the willingness of the GQP electorate to engage in performative tokenism just to gain themselves a one-up or gotcha to use to own the libs. Faux News is rife with it. Whenever they need something said that would otherwise need to be proceeded by “I’m not a racist but” if a white dude said it, they trot out one of their tokens.
Yeah I hit the link in the Wiki on the movie and was reading about him. I had some idea about how problematic the movie and book were. I just hadn’t looked into it at all - what I knew was mostly accidental so thanks. hahahahaha
He started life poor, joined the Marines, hung around with generals as a media specialist, then wrote a book about growing up in a self-destructive “hillbilly” culture. The book made a lot of money, for a book. Maybe seven or eight million. By gop standards, he’s upper middle class, but apparently Vance thinks he’s ready to trip a light fandango with lifelong grifters. “Everyone knows” his next step has to be grifting in Congress to make real money. I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’s interested in anything besides mo’ money.
“Nonsense! Why, some of my best friends are ______________.”
Also, why do people think that public (and if you ever tweeted it, it’s public, so sorry) displays of abject moral cowardice are a good look for a newly launched campaign?
