Uno ) i really want Ron Howard to be asked about this movie (regrets, etc.).
Dos ) it’d be asking for it, but sometimes, i wish Virginia was a ‘super state’ (Kentucky, Ohio, WV and Indiana was claimed by them).

He and Elise Stefanik would make a cute couple
Why? I mean if we rolled back to (really) the Louisiana Purchase we’d have a Texas superstate, one suspects. Why is this a good thing? hahahahaha
Dunking purposes, but the joke would be on me (electoral college).
That’s one problem with re-adjusting the state maps.
I want to see how many people would need to move from CA to each R state to tip the electoral balance in D favor. A couple small cities worth each and we’re there!
I’m again asking for it, but considering that Mexico and Spain couldn’t make the viceroyalty (I’m too lazy to look) work, dem hillbillies also would have problems.
Hence, Hershel Walker running for Warnock’s seat. Sigh.
Oh, and OT: Today it is legal in Virginia to have small amounts of weed. Amazing, considering this state was bright red not so long ago.
Every supermarket in my area stocks gochujang. I need that. I don’t want to move to a place that doesn’t have it. Asian flavors make life worth living for me. Frankly republics rise and fall all the time if you just speed up the timeline.
Once you get a taste of the “good life” then it’s hard to turn your back on it. And greed does this as well.
He’s just another troll running for office with no intent to serve the public.
I have a bunch of boxes of stuff from my late father’s house in my own and “Hillbilly Elegy” is in one of them and from what I’ve learned lately I can just pitch that thing and be done with it. Thanks, J.D., for lightening my load there.
I couldn’t figure out what to do about Spain and Mexico so I decided to ignore them. hahahahahahahahahaha
Yeah, you’re not missing anything. It’s nothing but a screed about how much poor people suck and it’s all their fault.
I have read Hillbilly Elegy. I grew up in the southernmost part of that culture. It rings true if you hated it and were desperate to remove yourself from its dysfunctionality, even if that meant dumping your insane family of origin and signing up for a lifetime of therapy.
Not everyone hates that culture. Not everyone (apparently) grew up in felony-level abuse. Or they acclimated to it and adopted those values as their own. Hard to know.
That said, the culture produces deeply conservative people. Not so much in the thoughtful way as in the kneejerk violent way. Sadly, I’m not conservative in their way. I’m more of a Rawls fairness is justice kind of conservative, loyal to the concept of my country, but not to any specific person, though it’s obvious that some are better than others.
Glad I never bought his book.
Why do they all have this clean-shaven corn-fed look in the jowls? I’ve met them on vacation and they give you that smug smirk, look down at you, and expect you to except the racism they just tried to hide.
Rep. Tim Ryan is in it, and he’s an excellent candidate for a statewide race in Ohio.
I’m not entirely unfamiliar with that culture. Various life experiences have exposed me to it. I can empathize if not always sympathize with it. It’s a big part of our national DNA. The real conflict I see here is with J.D. Vance. He came off as a guy who wanted to make a good-faith effort to help the rest of us see these people in the round. I no longer feel confident that’s really who he is.
Public service, of course.
Wait, maybe I got that mixed up with something else…
Why delete his tweets? Because snakes shed their skin.
