High School Named After Robert E. Lee To Be Renamed After Rep. John Lewis

A high school in Fairfax County, Virginia named after Confederate general Robert E. Lee is poised to change its name to honor the late Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), who was at the forefront of the fight for civil rights.

A high school is nice. A fort would be better. A certain bridge would be better still.

All of those can be done. And streets, airports, stadia, courthouses . . .

If only a handful of US cities renamed just a single street, then every Trump Tower in America would have a ā€œJohn Lewis Driveā€ address.

Forever.

Trump wants it to be renamed after the rhino. Or maybe the camel. Itā€™s difficult decision.

Well, the one in NYC has a big-ass ā€œBlack Lives Matterā€ out front. When heā€™s back home meeting with his lawyers he can take frequent breaks and admire it at his leisure.

Hey Virginia!!! What about Jefferson Davis Highway?

Iā€™m assuming Donnieā€™s not going to be at liberty to be bothered by this for too long.
Nonetheless, wherever analogous changes can be made, it is justice served.

Haha half the roads in my county are like that. In Tylerville itā€™s Bugleton Road. In Bugleton itā€™s Tylerville Road and so forth.

Forget the Traitor Towers, rename the street in front of Merde-a-Barfo. And the golf courses.

More pleaseā€¦

Iā€™d like to see a ā€œEat A Dick, You Confederate Fucktardsā€ High School at some point. Their teams can be the ā€œReconstructionists.ā€

It makes me shudder to think of how many millions consider this tiny light in the darkness a personal affront, but it is my feel good story of the day. And that is true for the majority of sane Americans.

This is such a well-deserved honor for a great man, and I support it wholeheartedly.

But let me also say, while weā€™re doing the important work of renaming schools, highways, buildings, and bridges, letā€™s not let the establishment off the hook in terms of our criminal justice system, healthcare, education, and job opportunities as well. We need not just symbolic change, but also structural change.

PS: I donā€™t mean to imply that any progressive has forgotten. This just a reminder that we still have a lot of important work in front of us.

There ainā€™t nearly enough schools named for W. T. Sherman either.

Note to casual Googlers: ā€œSherman High Schoolā€ in Sherman, TX most emphatically does not count. The town of Sherman has certain historical issues of its own there.

Indeed. In fact, what we really need is more of Shermanā€™s no mercy, no quarter, scorched earth against them.
