High School Named After Robert E. Lee To Be Renamed After Rep. John Lewis

I propose jack-hammering off the bas reliefs of the traitors on Stone Mountain, and replacing them with Lincoln, Grant, and (especially) Sherman.

When are we going to learn to get along with white supremacists? The racism they’re subjected to is intolerable.

Sherman’s leash was far too short.

I used to work with a redneck conservative from Georgia. Any time I wanted to see him screw himself into the ceiling, I would find a way to bring Sherman into the conversation. It was almost too easy. Almost.

Cue the haters screaming about CANCEL CULTURE without one iota of understanding…

I live in a major city, has a cemetery with a large section set apart for deceased Confederate POWs. Old military base nearby held them. The North was no better than the South in its treatment of people.

It seems to be a southern thing…when I lived in Atlanta I was constantly driving down roads that had a different name from one part of the city to another. Heck, the road the leads from Decatur through downtown had 3-4 name changes in just a few miles. I never did understand the roads in Atlanta anyways…Sherman burned the place to the ground, and they apparently ran the roads around the piles of ash.

More important than renaming things, really. IT’s going to take time, too. And political will power.

Should have piled a foot of salt on top of the ash.

No! We don’t want him back here ever! He can only come back to appear at the SDNY – and he can meet with his lawyers in Florida.

Just how I felt about W but we got him just the same.

This bit of good news brought tears to my eyes. Rest well Mr. Lewis.

Surely, there’s room for Benjamin “The Beast” Butler on there, too.

Would those be his criminal lawyers or his civil lawyers? :grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:

This is all good news, however I started to notice the Thin Blue Line flag is the new Rebel Battle flag… One of my neighbors kid that used to have bumper sticker of rebel flag in his vehicle, now has one of the thin blue line. I just saw one flying a huge TBL flag from the back of his truck… They are not fooling anyone…

I was in Mississippi a long time ago and it’s basically all coastal plain where I was, and every road goes straight as an arrow to the next town. You’d just point the car at that town and barely touch the wheel until you got there.

If you had told me that anything like this could happen when we had an ignorant, racist president, I would have looked at you like you were crazy.

But here we are, and just look what’s happened. There’s much more to do and change, absolutely, but it’s just so ironic that the jumpstart happened during his presidency.

He did accomplish something after all in a roundabout sort of way. I hope it makes those cretins cry. We’re not going back.

Renaming the bridge, best new idea in the world today.

A high school in Fairfax County, Virginia named after Confederate general Robert E. Lee is poised to change its name to honor the late Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), who was at the forefront of the fight for civil rights.

That’s an excellent start.
People who work and fight for civil rights are heroes.
People who work and fight for the enslavement of others and promote racism are evil.

Yes, I think we need to expunge the names of secessionists from all public displays that ostensibly honor them. Just so history remembers them, keep their names in books, perhaps with qualifiers such as “secessionist”, “slave owner” or “took up arms against his/her country”.
