Here’s Everything We Know About The Trumpian Plot To Seize Voting Machines | Talking Points Memo

For more than a year, reports have trickled out detailing one of the most brazen proposals in Donald Trump’s attempt to steal a second term in the White House: An effort to seize voting machines in states across the country.

I wonder why he was opposed to the Defense Department seizing the machines

I like the scenes where TFG tries to get the Pentagon, DOJ and DHS to go along with this lawbreaking and these conservative stalwarts run for cover (but don’t rat him out).

The only surprising thing about this is that it isn’t surprising in the least. Is there any underhanded, cheating trick he could pull that would surprise us? I don’t think so. Nail his ass.

I’d like to know: how many voting machines we’re talking about and what they were going to do with them. That’s potentially thousands of rather largish machines and one supposes that they wanted to do something to every single one of them? If an election hinged on something to do with all of the voting machines in the country - which it would not, since they are not all the same - it would take forever to get settled. We would not have a result for an election like that for potentially years and especially if one of the candidates kept protesting what was being done.

But The Times reported Monday that Giuliani opposed the idea. And Giuliani’s attorney Robert Costello told CNN, “as soon as he heard about this idea, he was vehemently against it, as was White House Counsel Pat Cipollone and then-President Trump.”

To evaluate this statement, remember that Costello has also represented Trump.

A post of mine from another thread:

["We are seeing more criming and more reporting on criming in Trump World. I am struck at how the personality of Trump is adopted by his minions. The part of dealing with accountability (the lack thereof).

But the minions are not Trump "]

Getting to Trump will take place also by working on his minions.

TFW Ken “the Cooch” Cuccinelli, the most corrupt and politicized AG in Virginia’s history, is the voice of reason.

I assume they’d probably take photos of the innards and say, “Where are the votes? It’s all made up! I can’t see any votes.”

Terrible optics. A bit too much like a Banana Republic dictator using the army to stay in power with a military coup.

I’d think TFG would love those optics! Which only deepens the mystery.

My only question: what more evidence does the DoJ need for a criminal indictment?

Its pretty clear that Trump was involved with everything from the Jan 6th insurrection to the fraudulent electors to trying to interfere with state election operations.

Hang his seditious ass. (They’ll have to use Dyneema, since the rope will need to have the tensile strength to hold up his “269 pounds.”)

He and his crew tried to overthrow my republic; hang 'em all. HANG. THEM. ALL.

As I understand it, Abbott was barely involved.

This group - yeah. Likely so.

Oh, I’m sure Trump would love the optics but he’s an idiot. Even the worst of his inner circle (hello Stephen Miller) would have known how the media and the public would have reacted to the sight of US Army soldiers marching into state election offices to seize voting machines. FBI or DHS personnel would have been at least a little more palatable, indicating that some crimin’ was going on.

Excerpt:

Pence and Trump haven’t been on speaking terms since last year, when the then-VP went against Trump’s orders and fulfilled his duty to certify Joe Biden’s election victory in Congress. But their relationship plumbed new depths Tuesday, when Trump released a statement saying that Pence should be under investigation for not reversing the 2020 election result.

In a furious statement posted by Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington on Tuesday, the former president once against attacked the House committee investigating the Capitol riot, and said the panel should be focusing on Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, rather than himself.

The ex-president wrote: “The Unselect Committee should be investigating why Nancy Pelosi did such a poor job of overseeing security and why Mike Pence did not send back the votes for recertification or approval, in that it has now been shown that he clearly had the right to do so!”
