“Woke” has become a new RWNJ boogeyman phrase, I started hearing it more frequently from them after the BLM protests. Used mainly to describe Whites supporting POC and therefore betraying their race.
In Douthat’s case, it’s just a general way to pan any liberal opposing his dreams of a Christofascist state led by the guy wearing the funny hat in Rome.

I pay for both. With the NYT it’s mainly for the cultural coverage, but the news and opinion sections aren’t that bad lately. It’s just a few idiots like Douthat that they keep onboard for “balance” that drive me nuts, so I just stopped reading him.
