It was a process - and had a lot of sausage making ! … and a lot that was cringeworthy
…but at the end of the day - it does not seem that Joe Biden has put any of his colleagues on his enemies list.
Joe Biden is a man of character and integrity and he comes across as one who would see his greatest accomplishments as the instances when he lifted others to success.
This is undoubtedly a disappointment - but he has always been a resilient guy - and he has had a life long ability to refocus - to reset and look forward and and see a brighter future & a reason to believe .
If Joe Biden can reset & and not be bitter everyone in the Democratic tent can too!
I would say there is no Party without Harris. It is not everyday people apply pressure to Pass the Chair from a setting President to the VP. Oh and thank God for Joe Biden.
You left out the part where the oligarchs who own the media are salivating for Trump and those endless tax cuts. So they can’t help but have their lackeys who write the shit that passes for “news” do their bidding.
I think the donations etc showed what the polls have been saying - a lot of people weren’t happy with Biden vs Trump on both sides. And the hammer of that fell hardest on Biden after the debate.
So, a lot of Democrats who loved Biden in ‘20 but simply weren’t comfortable with what they were seeing are energized because we’d be energized by any generic Dem who showed the ability to take it to Trump.
All these Dem’Anon theories about some diabolical plot by all the same people who supported Biden in ‘20 now going Illuminati on him for some nefarious reason are ridiculous. An ‘81 year old man went out and had the worst debate performance in history after months of speculation about his age and became a laughing stock to large portions of this country. If you don’t think so, start watching this video with 11 million views 2:50 in… it’s cruel and hurtful and also one of the biggest comedy podcast in the world
When Hilz was running, I gave my first large (for me) Act Blue donations. Now with Kamala, I am budgeting out how to reach the max allowed ASAP.
In looking up the limit, I was rather astonished to see the numbers in the various categories. I have given substantially to DNC, DCCC, and DSCC too, but $123K? Shiiiiit.
I’m no expert on New York politics but can AOC win a statewide primary and subsequent election? She’s definitely moving to the center, and demonstrating more fealty to the party establishment. Still, NY politics doesn’t scream lefty at the state wide level.
I don’t always have much confidence in the Democratic Party doing the smart right thing, but they seem to have done so rather quickly.
I mean, seriously, this ain’t 1968. The big money players aren’t entirely stupid, there was simply no way they could go forward and have the Vice President, a woman no less, of color even, bumped off the stage for someone else, there would be no path to beating Trump if they had. And our Governors are a lot smarter then these money cretins think.
I just sent the Vice President $100 bucks, and damn happy to do it.
Please don’t pick a nobody like Tim Kaine. Let’s get someone who fights please!
The only nonprofit which can boast $0 overhead, with 100% of donations (that’s right, Folx, 100, not 99, not 98, not 30% and the rest lining the C-Suite salaries) going directly to the Cause.
Sorry if it’s bad form to copy your own comment from another thread, but I assume the convo is moving to this thread bc it’s the evening “where things stand”…
I’m not a joiner-type and very much not a worshiper of personality cult. I tend to turn my nose up at rally speech platitudes. (When Obama said “hope and change” I was asking my friends “what tf does that actually mean?”) But Kamila Harris just gave a speech to her campaign staff that made me want to run through a wall.
When she said (something like) “As an attorney, I prosecuted [all kinds of crime]” her staff started to laugh knowing what was coming and then she led with “Predators.” I was like OOOOOOOH DAAAAAAAMN!!! YEEEESSSSS!!! And she kept going from there. Trump would be an absolute fool to debate her. She’ll filet him.
And she did a great job of describing a hopeful future (a must for any campaign) and contrasting it with MAGA wanting to go backward.
She was relaxed and poised, warm, but also formidable when she wanted to be. Given that it was her first speech since Biden stepped down, it was a big one and she more than nailed it. I don’t remember her being anywhere near like this when she was running in the primaries.
It’s gonna be a tough race and I’ll be back to dismal tomorrow, but tonight I’m allowing myself to feel like I feel right now: it isn’t gonna be close. Trump’s fucked.
Edit: more thoughts… Trump’s whole thing has been running on his “strength” (that WE know is empty but too many don’t) against Biden’s weakness. Now, if she can keep giving speeches like that, she’s basically blowing Trump out of the water on strength. He’s like a shrunken husk compared to her.
