Grenell Brings In Ex-Nunes Loyalist And Starts Digging Into Raw Intel On Russia | Talking Points Memo

New acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell has already asked for access to information about Russian interference in the 2020 election from intelligence agencies under his watch, the New York Times reports.

This is why he was hired, to get the intelligence and then come up with the ā€œalternate factsā€ that show the Russians are actually trying to help the Democrats win, not Trump. Or, just to cover up the entire thing, probably by using investigations of the intelligence community itself to show that it is working against Trump and making up stories about the Russians. Itā€™s the same playbook they have been running for years now, and now they have someone who controls all the information so they can control the narrative. And, on top of that, they can crush anyone who tries to blow the whistle and keep them away form Congress.

This whole series of events, combined with Barr requiring his permission to start any investigations of a presidential campaign, is really dangerousā€¦itā€™s laying the foundation to cheat in the election, and then refuse to accept the results if Trump loses. Add in what is likely to be real Russian interference, perhaps by changing votes this time around, and the entire thing may end up as a huge mess this fall. If Trump can manage to make the election as horrific as possible, I can see him invalidating the entire thing and keeping himself in office no matter what the result saidā€¦and heā€™ll have the Republican party and enough Americans behind him to make it happen. Truly, this is where we are headed, itā€™s going to take a monumental effort by Americans who are sick of this crap to make sure Trump and the Republicans lose, and then force them to accept the loss.

Oh.

President Donald Trumpā€™s new acting intelligence director, Richard Grenell, used to do consulting work on behalf of an Eastern European oligarch who is now a fugitive and was recently barred from entering the U.S. under anti-corruption sanctions imposed last month by the State Department.

In 2016, Grenell wrote several articles defending the oligarch, a Moldovan politician named Vladimir Plahotniuc, but did not disclose that he was being paid, according to records and interviews. Grenell also did not register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which generally requires people to disclose work in the U.S. on behalf of foreign politicians.

I believe it may have been stated here before, but Moldova, et al, may as well be considered Russia.

Any chance Grenell turns out to be a Russian foreign agent?

If Trump has the choice of a qualified person for any position between someone qualified or a shithead, he picks shithead every time.

The thing is, these folks are so incompetent and so unqualified, that by the time theyā€™re thrown out, even the Burkina Faso Intelligence agency will have kompromat on the GOP as well as nuclear bomb-making secrets and the plans for the latest submarines.

So, itā€™s the Mike Flynn - Ezra Cohen Watnick & friends playbook.
Unsurprisingly, itā€™s not new, but itā€™s at least as fucking concerning as the last time round.

Republican Senators. You are equally responsible for all the damage Agent Orange does to the USA.

No mystery there: only the shithead will even pretend to give him the unqualified loyalty and adulation he craves.

Itā€™s as much of a coin toss as Agent Orange.

Grenell should resign.

Grenellā€™s appointment and installation of Patel has stoked fears that he will use the role to run intelligence gathered by the government through a political filter.

Isnā€™t that what has been going on with Trumpā€™s intelligence briefings? Supposedly they have long dumbed them down and wouldnā€™t tell him things that would anger him.

Butā€¦butā€¦butā€¦the president says he hires only ā€œthe best peopleā€.

Any resemblance of Trump to Musselini is an insult to Musselini.

President Trump was close to nominating Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) as director of national intelligence, Bloomberg reports.

ā€œBut that idea was scrapped when Trump learned of a 2016 video clip in which Stewart said ā€˜Donald Trump does not represent Republican ideals, he is our Mussolini.ā€™ā€

Not sure what to say. Itā€™s been clear for years that the Republican Party wants a dictatorship that suppresses minorities and liberal Americans. Theyā€™re even willing to embrace a kleptocracy of dunces if thatā€™s what it takes. Thatā€™s how much hate there is out there. You simply have a country that has a huge population ofā€“and I use the term as neutrally as possibleā€“assholes. That is the default human product of provincial white American culture: the resentful, aggressive asshole who simply has not been educated to a level that democratic society requires. A constitutional democracy is not just a set of papery declarations. Itā€™s a dedication to a civic society trained in certain values. The United States has not been able to survive the rise of minorities and women to an equal position in our society. There are simply too many assholes out there to permit it.

Itā€™s always baffled me why this has been so difficult for people to accept. Maybe itā€™s because we all ā€œknowā€ Republicans or have them in our families and social or work circles. At any rate, thatā€™s where we are now. A Republican party that is brazenly in cahoots with hostile dictatorships to undermine the 2020 election. It was obviously the case in 2016, but we couldnā€™t cope with it or even name it, even with a Democrat in the White House. We still canā€™t.

And since his real area of expertise, as I understand it, has always been sort of as a public relations/messaging guy, his job is clearly to comb through that information and turn it into an indictment of the Dems and their candidates and push the conclusion/narrative that Russia is really trying to help the Dems, especially Bernie because heā€™s a communist. I figure weā€™ll get the first taste of that next week with maybe some anonymously sourced Faux News articles and an announcement from the administration. Meanwhile, Trump is busy telling rally kkkrowds of his kkkult that the Russian interference on his behalf is Dem ā€œdisinformationā€ and that the intelligence community has it all wrongā€¦all while invoking Bernieā€™s honeymoon in Moscow.

"ā€œThese people are crazy,ā€ Trump said of the Democrats, predicting that the Putin preference narrative will become the focus of a new probe."

See? See what Grenellā€™s been hired to do? There will now b e a ā€œprobeā€ to determine that the intelligence community was lying when it determined that Russia is interfering on Trumpā€™s behalf, and that it is only doing so on behalf of the Dems, specifically Bernie.
