Grassley, Johnson Push Ukraine-DNC Conspiracy Theory With Doc Demand | Talking Points Memo

California has 2 US Senators to represent the interests of the state and its 38 million Americans.

Russia has a larger number of US Senators representing its interests.

So, Dr. Hill. What was that you were saying about spreading Russian promulgated conspiracy theories?

FFS. First Graham and now these guys. And, of course, almost all the Republicans in the House.

Perhaps Fiona Hill should have said, ā€œPlease, Republicans, donā€™t jump off the 200 foot high cliff. It will only help the Russians.ā€

I just donā€™t understand how and why all these people are supporting the orange and are so adamant to defend him no matter what. Canā€™t they see that heā€™s a crook, and a big one? Heā€™s acting just like a mafia boss. Canā€™t they see that? They are accepting him saying that we have to accept his unorthodox ways, hence his belief that heā€™s above the law.

Before I read this, my wife was asking the rhetorical question, ā€œHave these guys no shame?ā€ or words to that effect. And then, as someone mentioned above, maybe they have been bought by the Russkies. The unthinkable is now thinkable today.
And the email that Josh published this morning: If the writer is correct in his view, it suggests that Roberts does not want to go downing history as having been a Trump enabler. Maybe there is balm in Gilead.

Maybe they can find a typo that will blow up the whole thing.
Two things: they could have done this a long time ago.
Also, that meeting yesterday must have been wall to wall crazy to make them all come back and start investigating Dems.

Iā€™m going to check out for the rest of the day. Iā€™ve had enough fun. And oh, BTW:

They are flexing their muscles and maybe even trolling the Dems. In many ways, the limits of government are being laid bare here. As we are all painfully aware, Republicans control the Supreme Court, the White House, and the Senate.
It is kind of dangerous to wish for things that are out of our control. We might have to settle for articles of impeachment and realize that no matter what we do, the game is currently rigged against us.

Maybe if the they get their hands on a the original papers in the paper trail then Johnson and Grassley can have them tested to see if they were acid washed, thus obscuring the original messages.
These Republican have spent way too much time watching Alex Jones and other RWNJs.

When you should be investigated, shift the direction and become the investigator.

Honor, thieves, thugs?

Asked and answered.

Interesting play for the Republicans. What were the Democrats looking for in the Ukraine? Dirt on Manafort.

Do Republicans really want to open the door to talking about Manafortā€™s career and how his previous client before Trump, Yanukovych, had to flee to Russia?

and its going to work ā€“ because the Dems wonā€™t have an effective counter-attack/narrative and messaging strategy, and the ā€œbalancedā€ mainstream media will feel compelled to engage in ā€˜both-siderismā€™.

the point here is that the GOP strategy is working ā€” and the Demsā€™ strategy is not. If the Dems strategy was working, there would have been a boost in support for impeachment in the polls ā€“ instead, there has been a small but steady decline since the hearings began.

When one side is spreading disinformation and distraction, and the other side is refusing to respond to those efforts, the side that is lying gains ground. Democrats had a perfect opportunity to demonstrate how completely craven the GOP is for the last two weeks ā€“ instead, they decided that the American public would figure it out.

Except for one problem ā€“ the ones who were smart enough to figure it out on their own did so two years ago. That means that the Dems needed to put the information in a more digestible form for the people who remain persuadable ā€“ and the Dems failed to do that.

I feel like you answered your own questions. And you seem to be asking them under the extremely flawed presumption that Republicans arenā€™t 100% in favor of running our government like a mafia crime family, where they profit and their enemies suffer.

You know, just like Russia.

This is what theyā€™ve always wanted. They are fascists. They want all the power so they can do whatever they want without consequence. And they are very, very close to achieving their dream.

ā€œSens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) sent a letter to the National Archives seeking records from Obama Administration-era contacts with Ukrainian officials.ā€

The Obama administration ? Was there a secret election overnight ? What did I miss? Isnā€™t Donald Trump President ?
Let me add:

"ā€œWe watched a pathetic performance,ā€ Steele told MSNBCā€™s Chris Matthews. ā€œSo pathetic, that at the end they couldnā€™t even ask questions because they knew the moment they did she would shred them alive on live television.ā€

Remember, the goal is to announce investigations, not to conduct them.
