Graham Finally Creeps Out From Behind Trump’s Shadow To Back Cheney | Talking Points Memo

The fluffer in chief must be looking for new gig. Never seen such a candy assed politician in my life.

No kidding. As Captain Renault would say: “I have no conviction, if that’s what you mean. I blow with the wind. And the prevailing wind happens to be from McConnel’s office.”

Never thought I would be backing Liz Cheney on anything. But it least she appears to be grounded in reality versus all the delusional conspiracy nuts that seem to be the majority of her party now.

Weathervanes are known to swing wildly in the dead of winter, even in South Carolina.

Lindsey Graham is the Wayland Flowers of Eddie Haskells.

I used to have a modicum of respect for him. After all he was a Army Jag and took pragmatic positions on many issues like his pal McCain. He wasn’t a climate denier and helped to negotiate the 2013 immigration reform bill which ought to be revived. You would hear the stories from the Obama White House alumni how he would try to ingratiate himself with them. Positions that would have him catch hell among the base in South Carolina and actually forced him to be primaried.
Once he went full on Trump rent boy that was it for me.

No, your first impression is the correct read on this situation. There is no central “powerful” figure in the crazy camp for him to latch on to. On the other side, however, he still sees McConnell as powerful. So he is getting in line with him.

Its really a pretty interesting moment. House republicans dislike their Senate colleagues stepping into their affairs more than House Dems do (and neither side is fond of it). But McCarthy’s utter inability to deal with any of the issues coming up, is forcing the situation. And right now, we are seeing a lot of Senate republicans getting in line with McConnell on this.

The after hour meetings the past few nights must have been extremely interesting affairs to listen in on.

Yup: I was going to note this same thing in the following passage from the story, my emphasis added:

Graham’s renewed support of his colleague in the lower chamber comes after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued a statement . . .

Y’know, with a lot of these folks, I can easily get what used to be called my Irish up. McConnell awakens cold, deep fury. Susan Collins, just contempt. Hawley and Cruz, righteous indignation.

But Lindsey? Thinking or reading about him just makes me sad.
