Mitch McConnell is trying to save his legacy with his speech…this is the speech any Constitutional scholar would write. But, if things were different, it’s likely that McConnell would go along with this, especially if it was a “more normal” Republican like Hawley or Cruz who they were trying to install. He doesn’t give a shit about norms or the Constitution, he cares about his power, and his only path to power now is to stand against the Trump nuts to hold onto the leadership of the Republican party.
No one should look at McConnell’s speech as a good thing, he’s as responsible as any other Republican for how awful things are now. And, his desperate note about saving the Union isn’t about anything but trying to keep the Republican party from being overwhelmed by their base desire for power.
He has a FUCKING LOT of nerve decrying “fake news” and tribalism. Screw you, Mitch. Hope you’re having one of the worst days of your pathetic life. And I would say he’s is the number one person who is responsible for all that has happened. He allowed and encouraged it.
Can someone explain how this is possible since Arizona met the “safe harbor” provision in the Constitution? I’ve read explanations before this week that indicated Congress does not have the option to reject states’ votes who certify them in time (which was one of the reasons the Supreme Court gave Bush Florida in 2000). But no one seems to be mentioning that now. Am I missing something? My understanding is that only Wisconsin missed the deadline.
I don’t intend to watch this live. It is a total waste of time. I will leave time wasting to the professionals. Tell us when it is over or if something happens that hasn’t already been orchestrated.
I think dems should also challenge trump states. Force the vote then still vote to affirm Trumps EVs show that dems are adults where they lose. Create a long voting record out if this mess. Tie that around all their necks.
And… It’ll take so long Warnock and Ossoff will be seated already before we are done.
Make sure this lasts long enough to rob Mitch of any more senate business as Maj leader.
Oh, thats nice. Chuck todd wants to “live in the Mitch Mcconell speech” instead of hearing Amy Klobichar. But all of Ted Cruz was worth broadcasting? Jeeeesh.
I’ve been checking front pages of WaPo and NYT to see the formal announcement that Ossoff has won. While I do that there’s coverage of these shenanigans, and I’d rather watch the blue clouds out my window roll by.
