Gordon Sondland Told Congress There Was Quid Pro Quo In Trump’s Ukraine Scheme | Talking Points Memo

Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland confirmed to House impeachment investigators during his testimony on October 17 that there was a quid pro quo in President Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, according to Sondland’s lawyer.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1258402

Sondland is a man of wealth with most likely a nice lifestyle. He has no intention of taking one for the team. The team that is Trump and Trump alone, as I recall from yesterday.

He’s not dependent on Trump for his fortune, his career, or anything else. Trump fears people he can’t control, and he can no longer control Sondland. This explains why Republicans on the committees have leaked nothing. There’s nothing good coming forth, from their viewpoint.

I expect Rick Perry to testify soon, now that Judge Beryl Howell has made a ruling on the Impeachment inquiry, and his testimony will be very damaging to Trump. Perry’s another guy who wants no part of any jail time just to save Trump.

Meh, Dotard personally killed the ISIS leader, he’s a hero, blah, blah, blah.

No quid pro quo for you…

Finally getting around to telling the truth about Gordo, eh Gordie?

OT-
Congrats to US Spec Ops on the Baghdadi raid!

And, finally and most importantly:
Steve Bannon: “Nancy Pelosi is winning the impeachment debate.”
‘Booyah!’

Time for the Rs, and especially Lindsey, to find a new fall-back position. What is the over-under on “it’s not impeachable because it didn’t work. They got caught first. You can’t impeach unless they got away with it!”

This puts his text in a different light, and may open him up to criminal liability, imho. It strongly suggests that he believed the president was lying, and that the phone call he was asking for involved an off-the-record discussion of how to cover for the president’s crimes.

It’s pretty clear now that Sondland is not the brightest bulb in the Trump chandelier.

He’ll be “invited” back for more testimony, and he’d better tell the truth when that happens.

More orange tantrums when Fatass hears this dropped DURING HIS FUCKING PRESS CONFERENCE.

Three cheers: ain’t no way we can have confidence in the outcome of the coming election for so long as this man is chief executive.
The sooner he’s gone, the better for the country.

They already tried that one and got laughed out of the room. I’m betting they’ll stick to “The President is justified in investigating corruption” because it continues the pressure on Biden’s campaign even though it’s a lie.

The more difficult issue is holding up the military aid. They’ll probably just wave it away as the power of the Unitary Executive to determine foreign policy, Congress be damned. Article Two means Trump is King, and he can do what he wants.

“cautioned that he wasn’t a lawyer but said he believed the answer was yes,”

WTF does not being a lawyer have to do with anything? He couldn’t translate the phrase “quid pro quo”?

I bet he can translate the phrase, “ad carcerem”.

I think he’s hoping the committee will offer him some sort of immunity deal for more behind-the-scenes info. Yes, the text message will be his own personal downfall. The man appears to not be even half as stupid as DJT, so he just hitched a ride with Team MAGAt to make own gravy loaded with even more fat. He needs to spend time in the pokey if the House decides not to make any deals.

Agreed. People like Barr and Pompeo have nothing to lose given the gravity of the already exposed derelictions, but Sondland and career diplomats aren’t going to ruin their lives to help Trump.

IIRC, he said “The President says there was no Quid Pro Quo” In any case, Sondland should think about jumping off the ship while there is a net to catch him.

Why do Sundland have to say it was a quid pro quo. The military aid was held up and it very clearly is.

When I got word of this Obama-Matching “announcement”, something told me that something like this would follow.

Thus slapping a “I’m Deflecting Today” sign on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

Could have been worse…he could have bribed a corrupt minion to advocate for Trump to get the Nobel Peace Prize.

More accurate response would be: “OK. You got me.”

Here in Portland, we know that Gordo is just another rich guy who thinks he’s a genius, and has now gotten himself in way over his head playing a game he doesn’t understand. His rich friends are not returning his calls, and his wife thinks it’s all just so unfair. He’s not going down with this particular ship, and is heading for the lifeboats. He’ll talk.
