To debase oneself this way to raise money – I don’t get it.

I think this kind of shit is shortening my life span. It’s like stupid, hateful, cruel and fact free quotes and campaign messages actually give me chest pain. Used to be heartburn but I think it has become more serious. I keep imagining 20 years from now when I am long dead and my daughter and her children are trying to make their way through the complete kleptocracy currently being bought and paid for by amoral sociopaths like Peter Thiel and Rupert Murdoch. I am having trouble imagining the good alternatives.

I was an optimist my entire life until I saw what the pandemic did to our society. I always thought the global crisis scenario would be the thing that made most of us veer back toward cooperation and sanity. To be that completely wrong about something makes me feel like a polar bear on a rapidly melting piece of ice.

Think of it this way: the age of our universe is 13.8 billion years old. We are merely a flash in the pan.

It’s hard to take someone seriously whose head was installed upside-down.

As a (non)doctor, I would diagnose the patient with a terminal case of cranio-rectal inversion.

I’m confused why the Biden campaign can’t sue and why this doesn’t fall into some type of fraud. Asking people to click unknown links about any topic, but medical procedures specifically AND then sending them to a campaign page seems to scream fraud.

Try taking a break. I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago and did my best to disconnect for a little while. Didn’t really miss all that much and it was very therapeutic.

It may be cute but it is a lie. He’s lying to his constituents in order to get their votes and after getting them will strep up the lying. They deserve him.

For me the trans issue is a loser for dems politically but this guy demonstrates how we might possibly squeak through…their overreach will disgust most decent people.

Before I saw your comment I thought, ‘was he pulled out by the head with forceps?’

I know, rude, but I’m just giving my first reaction to his overall ugliness as a person.

I agree with what you said though I see it as I was an optimist my entire life until I saw what the Trumpist Party is doing to our society.

I don’t know the answer either, but deep breaths help. Don’t lose sight of who you are and what you know is right. In short, don’t let the bastards drag you down. Just don’t.

This is just the latest attempt to creat another ‘other’ to scapegoat, to feed the fear and loathing that powers the GOP and its base.

The Republican Party that once was is dead and has been for quite some time. Sheer political momentum and the short attention span of too many US citizens has allowed it to continue, in part because of the concerted efforts of a large fraction of the media with their own vested interests that simply lie and distort reality to keep power. It is truly sad that so many people in this country cannot reason or think.

It is not a matter of political left versus right (think of the seismic shift in the Republican Party’s views of Russia, defense, security, basic education, etc.) but of the dominant fraction (if not all) of the Republican Party simply making shit up to frighten and control their base. The left predominantly continues to use facts, but no one holds the Republicans to reality. It is challenging to have any sort of meaningful discussions when one side is divorced from reality and facts. Approximately 990,000 US citizens died from covid-19 (and I’d bet that is a low-balled number) with 483,000 being attributed to Trump’s policies, but still people think he is on their side.

Someone should start another counter defining the number of fatalities his and his Republican Party partners (along with FOX news - low testosterone in men videos - really?) have caused in Ukraine due to his closeness with Putin. Talking about the death touch. And let’s not ignore his families connections to the Saudi regime that have recently come to light.

Their are NO moderate Republicans. Some simply can’t accept that the current party has changed, but where have their condemnations of the daily BS that spews from Republican leaders been? Not that it would make a difference. Let’s face it, the Republican Party is over and it will be a messy time before something new takes its place. In the meantime, expect more of this nonsense and more hatred from their policies. And yet, people support them based on the lies they spout. So why should they change? But silence is complicity, so keep the pressure on.

It might also help if the Democratic Party leadership got off the pot and started to publicly fight back and get their message out. I understand “wait until you see the whites of their eyes” approach to elections (people can’t remember what happened last week), but this is out of hand.

I can’t honestly say I’ve shared your optimism, but I do wonder more and more in the last year if we as a species are unsalvageable.

It’s not just irredeemable scum like this guy. I look around and see hardly anybody wears masks anymore; otherwise intelligent people put the masks away as soon as the numbers come back down, and then act surprised and offended when the numbers spike back up. (Mercer County, my home, has surged 97% in the last 14 days). And what will it take to not have a repeat of the December to February hell?
