Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) broke with the GOP senators who’ve already decided against impeaching President Donald Trump, even before the Senate impeachment trial begins, on Sunday.
That’s barely marginally better than the positions of McConnell and Graham.
It amounts to: “I’ll listen to what the House managers have to say. And I’ll listen to what the president’s defenders have to say. And then I’ll announce its time to move on. Nothing to see here. No need for witnesses.”
It’s extremely inappropriate for Gaham and McConnell to brag they will not be other than partisan. When they take the oath someone should shout from the gallery LIAR!!!
"“I am trying to give a pretty clear signal I have made up my mind,” Graham said on Saturday. “I’m not trying to pretend to be a fair juror here.”
“He need not have worried. Amidst his boot-licking and willful ignorance of a “quid pro quo,” Graham left little doubt that he had the slightest intention of doing his job as a juror."
Wonder how many phone calls he’ll get from Moscow Mitch asking what the hell is wrong with him? tRump will be inviting him over for fast food and offers of who knows what if he’ll only vote no right out of the gate.
I thought about that. And I also thought that Moscow McConnell may have orchestrated Toomey’s statement.
And, to me, it makes no difference as to the games Moscow plays…because in that event it would have indicated an awareness on the part of Moscow that there are snags out there.
If McConnell were not so evil and dangerous, he would bore the hell out of me. He obviously only cares about the Tree of Power and nothing else…
I can’t recall who first pointed out yesterday (and I am sorry) that running the impeachment through a process in the Senate that has nothing to do with Trump’s actual guilt or innocence means he will never be exonerated.
And I do think it makes him look even guiltier than he already does. Otherwise what is there to fear from an honest to god Senate trial with witnesses? I think Moscow Mitch may have over-cuted himself here.
He’s just trying to sound all reasonable and open minded. Sort of like Susan Collins when she says she has “concerns.” He’ll fall in line after the show.
The longer this keeps going and I know the House is going to vote on it this week, the better in the short term. I’m sure the Senate Dems have some aces up their sleeves and hopefully more corruption will come out. tRump gets to stew about his fate over Christmas which makes him look bad. Then, there’s January and however long that takes in the Senate I don’t know, but this can’t be the end of the story.
Maybe as @tena said he’s heard from some constituents and others will be too. I’m trying to not give up.
Even real geniuses outsmart themselves. Nabokov finally overdid it with Ada, for example. You can’t pile all your damn tricks into one vessel and expect things to still go ok - that’s just sloppy and I think he’s being sloppy.
