“Cornerstone of Western Democracy” … cornerstone … of Western democracy.
NONE of those words mean what they’re pretending that they do.

Yeah I’m just sightly flabbergasted at how very retro they just went and how utterly insane - all on account of White Supremacy.
Breathtaking - they want us to have a King again.
They’re the Tories without the NHS.
Wait a dam minute here … … how exactly can the British monarchy be a cornerstone of American Democracy? Did we not fight a bloody and protracted revolution to oust this very system from our shores? And further, did we not fight a war (1812-1814) against the very same system and in said later war was not the White House torched and our Capitol city occupied? Did I miss something here? Have we become British subjects? The Heritage Foundation appatently needs a course in American history that is fact based and not built on fantasy.
They have one. He lives in Florida. He is in exile.
They could do all the things that Donnie lets other people do for him.
Like calling death threats to political opponents or those judged not loyal enough.
Of course, then they’d be in jail and, presumably, not much of a contender; but, if you’re gonna go for purity tests, hey, why not go for the gold.
Exactly right - voting history accurately predicts one’s voting future, with few exceptions. Like @tena said, “they don’t like politicians, anyway”. I’d bet the farm I don’t have that those first-time trumpers are done with voting.
The problem is Ohio has so dang many loyal republican voters that it will be difficult to overcome - even without the one-time trump voters. I spent many months working and staying just north of Cincinnati and have first-hand knowledge of how “conservative” that place is.
The Democrats’ GOTV machine must run like a well-oiled machine. Is there a Stacy Abrams in Ohio?
The Senate (Ohio or anywhere else) is months away from settling down into a Narrative. What’s coming for Trump will take place long before that.
A better way to say it is that past voting correlates somewhat with future voting.
For example, a lot of people came out in 2008 to vote for Obama were first-time voters. They didn’t necessarily show up again in 2010 nor 2012.
I think a bunch of Trump 2020 voters were disillusioned folks who were voting for the person. Because he lost, I don’t see them becoming “illusioned” and coming back to vote in 2022 or 2024 if the person isn’t Trump.
(Well, yes, they’re “illusioned,” but not in the sense of now feeling like they’re part of the political process, and therefore turning into regular voters.)
In a “race to the bottom” you only get “bottom of the barrel” candidates.
I’m waiting for one of the more desperate candidates to go openly racist in their desperation to get “air time”, espousing a strict-KKK platform of putting women back into the kitchen and blacks (you just KNOW that in Ohio (especially southern Ohio) they will openly use the word “Ni(CLANG!)er” and will get lots of frothing-at-the-mouth-ammosexual support for it) back into servitude “where they were HAPPY!”
It’s only going to get worse. Republicans HAVE NO IDEAS AND NO PLANS. All they have is Fear and Hate and Loyalty to Trump, so they will triple-down on it.
It’s all they got.
Racism is at the root of all (bad) politics in the United States. It’s how politicians get white people to vote against their own self interest. Whether it’s Welfare Queens cranking out babies or the preferential treatment that gives your job to a lazy, shiftless… thug… “They” are living high on the hog while “we” bust our butts for peanuts. That’s a narrative that works all too well with real Amerikans.
Yeah and a lot like the one we threw out - both mad as hatters.
We need to question exactly which heritage The Heritage Foundation is trying to bring back. They may not know that 25th of March 1807 King George III singed into law that Act to Abolish Slavery in the British Empire. Yes the same king we wrested our new country from his greedy hands.
I really think an investigation into The Heritage Foundation is warranted. Who is promulgating their positions, and were they home schooled?
It’s ‘almost’ frightening to watch these lemmings follow the Orange Buffoon off the cliff…almost.
The GOP is getting a little too far into the weeds now. Colonialism? Really? At this point they are throwing everything at the wall.
Sure, but that is true in lots of other places too. Prior to Trump, those loyal Republican voters in Ohio were turning out about 2.6 million votes in each presidential election. Obama beat those numbers in both 2008 and 2012, and it would have been a very close race with Biden if that’s all the GOP had turned out in 2020.
The only two reasons Ohio looks like it has gone decisively red at the presidential level are that (1) Hillary substantially underperformed every other Dem presidential candidate stretching back to 2004, and (2) Trump really did juice his own numbers by a half million or so above the levels of his predecessors. If the GOP vote totals revert to the mean and the Dems don’t nominate another historically unpopular candidate, Ohio should still be competitive in 2024.
Well said. Apparently they are jonesing for genocide and slavery.
At Josh’s recommendation I read the two volume set of Grant’s memoirs. That led to a renewed interest in the Commanche history in west Texas/Oklahoma and most of Paulette Jiles novels about the post Civil War period in that area. My daughter recognized how voraciously I was consuming historical sources and bought me Shara’s Rise to Rebellion. Am on the second volume of that now as Franklin is in France all but begging King Louie for aide of any kind for the American revolutionary war effort. The King is nervous of course that he not set off a new war with England but at the same time seeing that if Monarchy is overthrown in America it may set off revolution everywhere in the world. And he was very prescient about that as the French revolution kicked off a decade after the American war ended with Jefferson as Washington’s Sec. of State encouraging the revolutionaries.
Ask any of his supporters.
It doesn’t matter at all who wins primaries or solid-red Republican districts or who out-trumps whom. We still have a trump card to play. His name is Trump.
