GOP Sen Open To Renaming Bases | Talking Points Memo

“And I think the right way to be able to do this is to be able to look at: where did the name come from, what do we need to have to be able to take a serious look at it, and then to be able to transition,” Lankford said

Langford gets no credit from me — Its not like there is “new” history that needs to be examined. The story of ‘where the names come from’ has been around for decades, and Langford has never bothered to speak out until now. He’s just another racist Republican who is being forced to retrench — he’ll still oppose any bill designed to meaningfully address social, economic, legal, and political racial inequality in America, and that is what the struggle is really about.

Additionally, the Department of Defense should re-adopt its original name: Department of War. You know, for clarity purposes.

It’s not just the Supremes.
It’s the rest of the federal judiciary, too----not to mention all the political appointees who make most of the decisions on a day-to-day basis.

As with all issues, Trump showing extreme weakness. A weak, knee-jerk reaction, based on nothing but petty tantrum-throwing, which will soon be followed by complete capitulation as more GOPers defect.

My emphasis (and I hope you do not mind). Those words don’t seem very profound, erudite or intellectual, but it’s all we have, really.

Too true.

For me the Supremes sit at the top of the pyramid due to a lifetime appointment. Not that the rest of the judiciary is not important. The political appointees come and go…at best they rotate and get shuffled.

Looks like we’re finally getting some Chuck Hagel moments.

All federal judges are lifetime appointments.

Decent for a red state Republican.

A horse that can count to ten is a remarkable horse, but not a remarkable mathematician.

Maybe we’re deciding fairness, justice, equality, and decency are true American values? Maybe we’re deciding we do love our Constitution and other founding documents, after all?

Maybe while we work on racial justice, we can work on economic justice at the same time? Bodes well for progressive ideas.

I wonder how much the military, Mattis in particular, visibly backing away from Trump, has instigated this. Even in ruby red Oklahoma.

A canvasser during the 2008 election asked me what I thought was the most important issue. When I told him the Supreme Court he looked confused, said thank you, and walked away.

He’s been sporadically decent in a good way, and more than sporadically strident in a bad way.

He may want to avoid coming down with COVID-19. Staying away from Tulsa is the smart move in this case.

The petri-dish of the upcoming Trump rally will change the minds of more people than Lankford.

About more things, along with military base names.

Tulsa’s not that far from KS.

Too true. And yet we only get to vote once, maybe twice each year. We can whinge on the interwebs daily.

I think the key is to build up your fury (and knowledge) by bitching each day, and the VENTING THE RAGE come election day.

The rare reasonable-sounding Republican from Oklahoma. Looks like he recognized that the times, they are a’changin…

OT: What happens when Kellyanne goes to law school? You get this train wreck of an interview. Posting just a couple bits here. This is just embarrassing.

Even that will not give many of tRumps appointees enough time to learn the constitution and dispense justice accordingly.

Not that they care about that of course.

Someone like Trump by nature, strips away tools to remediate or walk around the damage he does. If it is not simply eliminating a practical ability, he will burn bridges for you socially before you know it. You are not quite the racist he is, well he will be atrocious and let you be smeared by association. Suddenly you are isolated and beholden to him only. It adds to the sense of hopelessness that he uses to manipulate people. He has been doing this every day he has been in office. He likely has done this all his life including to his own family.

The Republicans are just starting to understand, whether friend or foe, he will apply this as standard course, without consideration of which.

Please give a heart felt welcome our Republican associates, now in the Trump Matrix.
