Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), a devout Southern Baptist, lamented on Sunday the difficulty of reconciling his faith and his idea of a good role model with his support of President Donald Trump.
" GOP Sen. Lankford Says Trump Isn’t A Role Model: ‘I Don’t Like The Way That He Tweets"
"However, Lankford said he applauds Trump’s anti-abortion stance and the way he stacked his administration with people “very focused on religious liberty.”
“So for people of faith…it’s a bit of a conundrum at times that I look at some of the moral decisions that he’s made and go, ‘I disagree with that,’” he said."
"If confusion is the first step to knowledge, I must be a genius.
“Saying that, there are policy areas that we agree on and when we agree on those things we work on those things together,” he added. “But it’s also been a grand challenge to be able to say, for a person of faith, for a person who believes that there is a right way to go on things…I wish that he did.”
Not the way you’re raising your children, but never-the-less, you’re still supporting him.
These guys are so terrified of him they are afraid to make one tiny criticism, afraid they’ll be sentenced to hell.
Not liking Trump’s tweets is definitely less intense of an emotion than mild discomfort, let alone having misgivings or being either concerned or disturbed to any degree.
So. Oklahoma. Doesn’t get much redder. Have to support the man, because your constituents support many of his positions and attitudes and panderings and because he’s personally vindictive and who needs the trouble? But despite that last, you can’t quite wholeheartedly slobber over him, you can’t condone his personal manner, because even in Oklahoma he’s that toxic. Interesting. I don’t care about what it says about Lankford as a person. The hypocrisy and national betrayal of all these punks has been noted for the record. I’m just interested in how he has to do this. The Oklahomans aren’t entirely in love with their favorite president. Just very interesting.
After criticizing Trump’s tweets, Senator Lankford quickly added: “of course I will vote to acquit Trump, regardless of his guilt. I’m just virtue signaling.” He concluded smirking: “In truth I really like Trump because he triggers libz”.
The Republican senator told Brennan that Trump “comes across with more New York City swagger” and “definitely not the way that I’m raising my kids.”
Well, this is just a mite offensive. What if I associated the BTK killer with everyone in the Midwest? But I’m not that stupid.
Not only do Oklahomans not have a monopoly on morality, I’d be willing to bet the standards of NYC denizens are equal to if not greater than that of people in the “heartlands”.
OT: Rudy was also involved in Venezuela representing “private interests”, undermining Bolton’s position on that country. So who really is our SoS? And no wonder Graham backed away from Guliani testifying earlier today.
Excellent question. Along with Graham’s situation—well, could be anything, I suppose. Some hideous revelation they know is imminent. Or just hedging for the future, laying down markers.
