GOP Sen. Defends McConnell’s Alliance With WH On Impeachment: ‘The Senate Is Not Really A Jury’

Stammer much, Senator? Jeebus! He cannot even believe his own words.

If the Senate is not a real jury then that must mean Kennedy is not a real Senator.

Jeff Foxworthy noted about Southerners that “you just can’t keep the most ignorant among us off the television.” I do not know why every news network turns to Kennedy for comments about ANYTHING when he is clearly a political hack who shills for a corrupt and inept president.

They will crow that their no-jury, no-evidence pretend trial has produced a real acquittal.

The Senate is the judge? What does that make John Roberts? Chopped liver?

not all crimes are impeachable offenses

Senator John Kennedy will ride his toboggan down that slippery slope all winter.

The next year, though, with President Biden, Sanders, or Warren, he will be all: “Personally I don’t want to remove the President from office for wearing a tan suit, but the Constitution is very clear that even crimes against fashion are impeachable!”

The impeachment hearings and debate were not a trial, therefore the senate trial is not akin to an appeals court.

Saying that neither the set of impeachable acts and the set of crimes is a subset of each other is to say exactly nothing.

Yes, the Senate is the judge and the Senate is the jury, but the Senate also conducts the trial, and with no trial there is no need for either jury or judge.

While there are not well-established rules for an impeachment trial, even Jack and Jill Hick know the difference between a fair hearing and a whitewash.

If there is a fair hearing, we will find out about a lot of shit goin’ on 'round here. If there is a whitewash, then Trump’s gloating and subsequent evil-doing will quickly tarnish the paint job.

I think he stayed behind during the Xmas break to open and close the Senate so he’s in close proximity to those political shows in DC. Seems he didn’t want to go home and actually deal with his real LA constituents over his tRumpian positions. He’s a coward when it comes right down to it.

Bumper Cars.

I know what McConnell, Barr and Trump want to do. But there are too many variables. Of the three men I just mentioned, the man most immediately harmful to the very existence of our Republic is Barr.

  • Trump is an insane toddler whose use to the GOP is maintaining the GOP base

  • McConnell can perform Houdini-like contortions in the Senate, but so much of his skill is confined to the Chamber he presides over

  • Barr is altering Law Enforcement as we speak. He is an extremely dangerous man who is operating with enough impunity such that everyone from legislators to journalists to online posters are baffled as to ways to describe how to stop him.

Such a complete asshole! He also apparently thinks the Senators’ impeachment oath is vague too. Pathetic!

Tapper should have reminded Senator Kennedy that the house will prove in the Senate trial that the founder’s main reason for putting impeachment into the constitution was for exactly the crime that Trump is accused of. Good luck to Republicans trying to show that that crime is not impeachable.

“It’s both jury and judge.”

The idiomatic phrase is “Judge, jury and executioner” senator, so it is your duty to complete the trilogy.

The GOP is in deep trouble and it seems they might have just realized it. Goober Kennedy is a perfect spokesman for the KKKGOP, where folksy stupidity is all they have. Pelosi has played them into a corner and they don’t know what to do, so in their complete nut job bubble they decided to double down.

Recall Calvin Trillin’s description of the Sunday morning news shows guests as, “the Sabbath Day gasbags”.

“It’s not a criminal trial. The Senate is not really a jury,” Kennedy told CNN’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper. “It’s both jury and judge.”

So it’s OK for both the judge and jury to coordinate with the accused? How did this idiot get elected?

I don’t understand who this Kabuki Theater is for. Impeachment is political, period. We know it. They know it. Trump’s supporters definitely think it’s political. Even the corporate media knows it, but they think it’s their job to play Matlock and get Republicans to publicly confess to the things everyone already knows. This is just another dumb game that means nothing to anyone else.

And the real problem is that the Conservative Movement is controlled by rightwing shockjocks and preachers, while their politicians are either believers or just play dumb. As long as their constituents support Trump based on their willful ignorance of the truth, then that’s what their politicians should do. The purpose of democracy and politics isn’t for us to all agree, but the rules we use when we don’t agree.

Senator, Bill Clinton was impeached for the high crime and misdeameanor of lying under oath about marital infidelity. When do we expect Donald Trump to raise his hand and testify with a camera pointing directly at him recording every word?
