GOP’s Proposed Expansion Of SNAP Work Requirements Targets Many Low-Income People In Their Early 50s Who Already Work

Someone said yesterday that for all the push to publish the Ten Commandments in schools and other public places, Jesus never said any of them.

He did, however, offer the Beatitudes. No one wants to see those published in public places and yet they are the words He, Himself, actually said.

Interesting, huh?

The problem is with their definition of “welfare”.

If you look at your chart, you’ll see that Social Security, Health Insurance, Economic Security programs and Veterans benefits add up to something like 64 percent of the budget. Now, pretty much the only one of those I’d consider “welfare” (in the sense the rabid mob uses it) would be Economic Security programs, but to the rabid mob, Social Security, Health Insurance and veterans benefits are all “welfare” (except when members of the rabid mob are receiving them) - can’t have all those freeloaders taking money out of the pockets of the hard-working oligarchs now, can we!?!?

The guy in that photo was in his early 50s in the 90s.

Remember when dump was saying the real unemployment rate was like 40%, then he got elected and “suddenly” it was down to 11% because he got elected.

That’s how republicans think in a nutshell.

OT: Very interesting analysis over on Daily Kos about the photo DoJ put out there regarding the documents they secured from Trump at MaL. Upshot according to the article is some of those SCIF level documents may be photocopies.

That is the intentional misinformation that they are fed 24/7 by RW media, and since they never do any actual research. that is what they believe.

Why should they do their own research? That only applies to the YouTube medical professionals that insist we should do our own research rather than listen to the experts, whose life work has been nothing but the topic at hand.

They know they’re right because they feel they are.

Beatitudes… too liberal
… … … … …
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

I think the point of the picture is that the woman assisting him could very well be in the affected 50-55 age range, and it’s not at all uncommon to find people of that demographic, who may on paper be “unemployed,” helping to take care of elders or young’uns. There’s a lot of unpaid caregiving work in a lot of households that enables working adults to, you know, work.

ETA: Honestly, we need to steal a page right out of Reagan’s playbook. Find someone who is in that situation, let him or her tell the story on camera. “If I didn’t have Sarah to help look after dad, I’d have to quit my job.”

So if someone is a helper who gets paid $.25 a week for 20 hours a week, they are OK?

Imagine the cost of the bureaucracy needed to monitor and enforce this requirement: There will be no savings but an additional cost.

I take groceries to folk like that gent in the photo. Every two weeks. My list is 18 people. Our little local group feeds about 135 folks who need our assistance. It;s not charity, it’s assistance. And the guy in the photo could easily be me. I am of that age cohort.
I would bet serious money that Garret Graves (R-Asshole) never assisted an old fart on a regular basis with his time and abilities. I once built a wood ramp so a gent newly confined to a wheelchair could access his trailer where he lived. I am positive Graves has never done such a thing for anyone…ever.

They don’t intend to monitor it. Just cut off any aid to anybody receiving it, and that will make them all sleep snug in the illusion that they have saved the taxpayer some money. Don’t look over here where old folks are dying in the gutter!

And many of those convicted are pointing a finger directly at Donald Trump - the overwhelming favorite to be the Republican nominee for president.

My point is that the age cohort named in the story is definitely not represented by the gentleman in the photo.
