GOP Rep Argues Trump Has ‘Different Set Of Rules’ With Classified Docs

McCaul, who sits on the House Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs committees

Let that sink in.

There’s a bigger problem than the pointlessness of it. The President has the power to declassify them, yes. But there’s a procedure that still has to be followed, with special markings on it to prove that it’s been declassified, and without that being done It. Isn’t. Declassified. Any other consideration is moot if that procedure isn’t followed, and by all accounts it never was even once. It’s just meaningless blather.

Next time a GOPer says Trump declassified everything, a reporter ought to ask, “Can the president tell us how many of the documents he declassified identify human intelligence sources?”

Raddatz should have been ready with massive pushback talking points that are listed here in this chat. This is nonsense. And it needs to be called out as such. And it seems to center, for Republicans, around the notion that Trump is still president or at least retains the power of the presidency even though he lost the election.

I think the much-noted unprecedented quality of having to search a damn ex-president’s house to retrieve a huge pile of insanely sensitive classified materials tells you, although not in so many words, how concerned they are about all this. He was a grave security risk from before he was elected. He has no conscience and no regard for anything outside himself. He will use anything to his own advantage. As a private citizen he was no likelier to get a security clearance than he would be to get a prize as a humanitarian. The damage he’s done, or risked, is so serious that in itself it’s a reason for them not to rent a sound truck and go up and down the street talking about it, that’s not the intelligence community’s style, but yeah, they’re freaked out.

questions about procedures and former presidents declassifying reports. She could have ask this long serving Rep from Texas how many docs did the FBI had to retrieve from Shrub or Obama? This rep has been in Congress since 2005. He should know how the Executive branch works, and the limits on the President’s powers.

Don’t play McCaul’s game. I suspect that Chiselin’ Trump was, indeed, the president when he left the White House and took those documents. But, for only a few more hours.

What McCaul is trying to distract us from is the fact that Chiselin’ Trump was not the president during most of the more than eighteen months during which he possessed those documents.

OT, but: Where was that picture of Beto’s rally taken? That’s a good-lookin’ crowd.

(A Twitter friend saw him in Laredo on Saturday, I think it was. He said Beto looked and sounded great; he appears to be fully recovered from that infection.)

Oh, he knows. When he’s having drinks with friends, he understands all of it. But some of them have the unhappy duty of going on TV and making excuses for what they know is inexcusable. Of course it comes out as gibberish. There’s no gray area here, no rational argument to make. They just have to try to soften it, for the sake of the midterms. TRIGGER ALERT THE FOLLOWING IMAGE MAY BE DISTURBING Once I saw a news helicopter flying over the business district of my small town. Found out later an elderly man had crossed the street and somehow fallen and been dragged by a semi. A borough employee had to come out with a snow shovel to clean the mess up off the street. This is like that.

Any ideas on the quote from this POS if Obama had done what tfg did?

Declassification is a red-herring.

None of the three statutes he will be indicted on, require the docs to be classified. Bill Barr even said so.

Also, quite ironic that the Chairman of the China Task Force should be defending having unsecured documents left in desk drawers at a golf resort, when those documents might already be in the hands of China. Word was out last year that Trump had documents at MAL. He doesn’t keep track of who visits there.

This is just the latest plate of cooked spaghetti thrown at the PR wall, to see what sticks.

This doesn’t. None of it does. Cuz it isn’t even cooked.

Of course he can’t - that’s classified!

Nope. You don’t need a ton of background knowledge to know that secret stuff is a big deal. You watch one James Bond movie, you know that much. Trump had secret stuff when he shouldn’t have. Anyone would be hustled off to prison for that. He just isn’t getting a pass on this from regular folks. It’s heartening to see.

You’d want to tell him, “Say it, don’t spray it.”

Actually I think Martha could have ‘innocently’ pushed for more gibberish. Attacking needs to be saved, and not done willy nilly.
