That’s why I am not so quick to agree with Josh’s sidebar this morning. I think there is most definitely an intraparty civil war coming, and its largely going to play out at the state levels.

The one then I’ve learned in the last 24 hours or so is that MTG was backed by Meadows and Jordan, both members of the Freedumb caucus. So who else in the Freedumb Caucus, soon to be renamed the QDumb Caucus, has been asked about MTG?

I mean basically what that editorial is arguing is that the GOP is totally unified as The Party Of Jewish Space Lasers. If that does (eventually) turn out to be the case, you won’t hear me complaining

So here is the thing about that.
Liz Cheney is not a moderate republican. But as the party keeps drifting farther into crazy town, the “right wing” becomes the “left wing”. Jeff Flake is another great example. The man ran on being a devout tea partier. Yet within 10 years, he was branded a moderate. His positions didn’t change, the party changed.
I would argue that there aren’t any moderate republicans in office. Just right wingers that can’t keep up with how quickly the party keeps moving to the fringe.
A split, kind of by definition, indicates a some sort of intraparty schism.
I would argue that the “civil war” decision was made right after the 2012 election when the party rejected their post mortem on that campaign. Its just that a whole lot of them didn’t realize what it was going to cost them in terms of party principles. And a whole lot more of them did, or simply didn’t care. We are now seeing that reckoning play out.
