Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R), whose state is seeing skyrocketing cases of COVID-19, on Tuesday made a stunning about-face on his decision to sign a bill that prohibited local mask mandates.
Oh, come on! Isn’t “owning the libz” worth ten or fifty thousand deaths of your own voters? Time for Asa to switch to the socialist party.
(But seriously, I’m just joking. Gallows humor, literally.)
Arkansas Governor: “I am a fucking moron, but I’m sorry about that.” Also, what is with the passive voice? “I wish the bill had not become law” - you fucking moron, YOU HAD AGENCY IN WHETHER IT BECAME LAW OR NOT. How about a little “I wish I had not signed it” or “I’m so fucking stupid that when someone put the paper in front of me I squiggled my signature but didn’t know what I was signing”?

Didn’t we once have a PRESIDENT from Arkansas, and wasn’t he a Democrat? Every time I hear one of these stories, I think, where is his Democratic opponent, trying to make hay out of this?

Seriously though, I half believe many GOP governors have little more idea what’s in the bills they sign than Trump did as President. “Lobbying org x told me this was something they’d score me positively on, so I signed it – who the hell knows what was in the bill, I didn’t look”
Yeah, kids dying in a hospital with ventilator tubes shoved down their throats is not a good look for any politician, asshole.
I’ll bet they refuse to overturn the ban on mask mandates. It’s in their fucking nature. As long as the kids ain’t fetuses, they don’t give a shit about them.

I can’t wait for gubernatorial candidate Princess Unibrow von Huckabee to scream about how kids suffering from COVID made a choice, like all free Americans do!
Also, he still has agency in whether the leg does anything to fix the mess. Call them back into special session. Use the bully pulpit to demand that, now that the consequences of the law are clear, the law be repealed. None of this moping about waiting for someone to rescue you from your mistakes.

If Hutchinson really wants to reverse the COVID catastrophe in his state, he needs a full lockdown for at least 2 weeks (like in March of 2020). Once you let COVID start spreading uncontrolled, you have to take drastic action to reverse it (if you don’t want to accept mass death).
