I have a friend who is working in the UAE as a teacher. Her blog this week explained how she got the Chinese vaccine for the virus. Yes. Other countries are already distributing a vaccine and the US is still f-ing around. As she is a teacher, she was first priority. It was easy for her, with a few checkpoints she had to cross, e.g., pregnancy test and a caution not to get pregnant for at least three months. Two part vaccine, which second part is in, I think, five weeks.
The UAE is already getting ahead of this.

This is all Biden’s fault, of course. He’s only been President elect for about three weeks and already we have a major recession and over 250,000 dead from this pandemic. Why haven’t they impeached Biden yet? What more does Congress need?

I really hope AstraZeneca’s vaccine passes the remaining hurdles quickly. Even if it turns out to be only 70% effective, their vaccine is cheap and they have the ability to produce billions of does in a short time.

The death rate is lower as a percentage of the number of cases, and this is not insignificantly related to the vast increases in testing since the peak deaths in April. But in terms of the numbers of deaths, they are already approaching the April peaks – and we are only in the seeding stage now. They will eclipse the April numbers very shortly, regularly topping 2,000 a day – and I’ve heard predictions of 4,000 a day, which does not seem unrealistic to me. The death rate in April was largely driven up by deaths in New York City. That won’t be the case going forward – which will be death everywhere.

Now that trump is out of office, the political demographics of who will be willing to get vaccinated and who won’t will probably shift dramatically. I think we really may end up with two very different national stories.
