The basis for Justice Samuel Alito’s rejection of congressional Democrats’ request that he recuse himself from Supreme Court cases tied to Jan. 6 was literally a meme.
When there is a Supreme court justice whose every ruing is utterly and absolutely predictable, there is a problem. He is an activist, zealot judge who is taking the Court down into the sewer with him. Term limits are needed since these justices are the sole judges of their own ethics and they look at themselves with integrity-colored glasses. It worries me that they will grant to Trump the same immunity that they enjoy. Stay tuned.
“That’s because, Alito wrote, he was not aware that an upside flag that’s become associated with the “Stop the Steal” movement was flying at his house in the weeks after the Jan. 6 attack — until it was brought to his attention.”
Sorry, Sammy. I’m not buying that shitty lie. If you don’t know what’s going on around your house and property then you have no fucking business sitting on the SCOTUS.
I bet Roberts is dying here as Sammy and Uncle Clarence shred whatever was left of the "Roberts Court’s legacy.
I completely believe everything that Alito is saying here. None of it, however is exculpatory. None of it is a justification for his refusal to recuse himself on cases involving Trump’s attempt to seal the election. This is because of the transitive property of conflicts. If my wife has a conflict, then by the transitive property of conflicts, so do I. This is what marriage means in America. This is why wives can’t be forced to testify against their husbands.
“My wife and I own our Virginia home jointly. She therefore has the legal right to use the property as she sees fit, and there were no additional steps that I could have taken to have the flag taken down more promptly,”
When lawyers want to proclaim their innocence and inability to do anything about a situation can really be dicks at times.
‘We own this property as joint tenants with right of survivorship and I have no more right to the property than my wife and can not override her decision. If we were tenants in common, then maybe I could have done something, but as joint tenants we both own the property and we both own the whole property. It’s kind of a bundle of rights. Legally my bundle does not outweigh my wife’s bundle. What was the question?’
I wonder if Alito pays enough attention to the kids these days to have a good idea of what “trolling” means. That’s how this all feels to me. “Fuck you” dressed in judicial robes.
I looked him up and he appears to be a Canadian investor who is a regular on “Shark Tank.” As to what “Shark Tank” signifies, you are on your own, but apparently it is a big thing in Trump’s consciousness.
And the whole thing misses the obvious: if his wife has these opinions, and expresses them at home on a regular basis, which she clearly does, and he loves her, then he has a conflict.
Move Alito’s rationale just a few inches to the right, and you’re at Clarence Thomas. “My wife was and is fond of the idea of overthrowing the government. I am not (cough), but I don’t control my wife.”
