I can just see them at lunch, eating big hoagies, drinking Cokes, and talking about Roger Taney, their great-grandchildren, the usual banter you get on a work site.
Thanks. Typo edited.
Yep, my aunt died at 86; after surviving cancer at least twice she kept chugging along until she basically just dropped dead one day without warning. They found she had cancers throughout her body which is probably what killed her in some way, but some people are just able to keep going and fighting them off for a long time.
There are several kinds of pancreatic cancer, and itâs kind of misleading that they get lumped together. The most common one, adenocarcinoma, is almost always very rapidly fatal. But the kind Steve Jobs had, neuroendocrine, is slow and treatable if youâre not an âalternative healthâ idiot. Itâs likely thatâs what she has.
âI have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam. I remain fully able to do that.â
Ok, but as long as Trump is president you need to remain a member of the Court even if youâre in a vegetative state.
Yeah, but I bet she swears like a navvy, hope Carter can handle it!
speaking of Vindman, did you read his op/ed today? Itâs pretty amazing.

just a taste:
Despite some personal turmoil, I remain hopeful for the future for both my family and for our nation. Impeachment exposed Trumpâs corruption, but the confluence of a pandemic, a financial crisis and the stoking of societal divisions has roused the soul of the American people. A groundswell is building that will issue a mandate to reject hate and bigotry and a return to the ideals that set the United States apart from the rest of the world. I look forward to contributing to that effort.
In retirement from the Army, I will continue to defend my nation. I will demand accountability of our leadership and call for leaders of moral courage and public servants of integrity. I will speak about the attacks on our national security. I will advocate for policies and strategies that will keep our nation safe and strong against internal and external threats. I will promote public service and exalt the contribution that service brings to all areas of society.
Why not, itâs worked fine so far for ThomasâŚ
Yes, I did. Thanks. I picked it up on Alternet. I got the sense that to Congressman Lewis doing the right thing was a simple, albeit profound, thing. I have the feeling Lt Col Vindman hears the same drummer.
@zoe_richards: Itâs bad enough when conservative is misused about politicians, but itâs an enormity to misuse it about appeals judges. The press should not adopt the idioms and appellations insisted upon by the Republican Party and its allies, yet it does so consistently. Donât fall into that trap. The word is radical.
Ginsburg is made of tough stuff.
(Youâd have to be to live with the knowledge that the President of the United States wishes you were dead.)
Can the Republicans even try to get a new Supreme Court justice this year? That would be a tough sell even for them. Itâs already August. Good health to RBG.
You mistake them for people with scruples or a sense of shame.
Well I donât know when early voting starts anywhere else so I donât know if we start first but Texas starts voting on October 13.
They would have to hurry to put another one the SCOTUS. And there would be such an outcry and pushback, I donât know if they could do it.
I just think there is nothing Mitch wouldnât do to ram a nominee through up until his very last day holding the gavel. He would definitely do it if given the chance, and what amount of outcry could stop him? I think we all just hope weâll never have to find out.
From your mouth to the ears of all the forces of the four directions!
While she does have a terminal diagnosis (really, we all do, in the long run), she is getting exceptional care and Tx. MY heart aches with the hope that her spirit and gumption keep up her strength until she decides she needs to give it up. She has indicated that her work is not done here. I believe her!
Key words âused to.â The guidelines and average have never served any of us individual patients well. I taught medical decision making for years. And I canât tell how much I appreciate the âoutliersâ at the end of the spectrum â both the patients and their treatment teams. Guidelines and actuarial tables are for cowards and insurance agents, in MHO.
Hmmm, Jimmy Carter, whose melanoma, which was treated, but later spread to his liver and brain 5 years ago, The one who defied all the odds, and is still working and supervising building Habitat Houses, at the age of, what? That one?
Yeah, I think so! The Energizer Bunny of ex-presidents.
