Ginsburg said at that time that she would continue bi-weekly chemotherapy, adding, “I have often said I would remain a member of the Court as long as I can do the job full steam. I remain fully able to do that.”
That statement alone gives me confidence she will plow on for sometime to come.
That attitude makes one survive longer than those that sit back and give in to the “let mother nature take its course” idea.
I really would rather not read another headline with “Ginsburg” in it for a while, unless it’s detailing another SC opinion where she points out the failure of right wing America to serve justice.
Five months, that’s all she has to do is last five months…if Biden wins it is very likely the Senate goes with him, so on January 3rd we’ll have a Democratic Senate. It may actually only need to be 3 months…there just may be enough Republicans in the Senate who will refuse to vote for Trump’s nomination after the election if he loses due to the optics. In either case, it’s really the biggest worry I have now, I don’t think Republican interference in the election will be successful enough to undo Biden’s big lead, and Republicans and Trump continue to do things that anger the people. Having a right wing SC that ignores the Constitution to their own ends despite Robert’s desires to paper over things is really a big danger to our future, so we need her to hang on until that’s no longer an option.
Yup, he’s the one who signed her up for the Habitat project, he’s in charge of all the framing and roofing and I think they’re doing the landscaping together. According to the schedule, they’ll have it all done Monday…
I can just see them at lunch, eating big hoagies, drinking Cokes, and talking about Roger Taney, their great-grandchildren, the usual banter you get on a work site.
Yep, my aunt died at 86; after surviving cancer at least twice she kept chugging along until she basically just dropped dead one day without warning. They found she had cancers throughout her body which is probably what killed her in some way, but some people are just able to keep going and fighting them off for a long time.
There are several kinds of pancreatic cancer, and it’s kind of misleading that they get lumped together. The most common one, adenocarcinoma, is almost always very rapidly fatal. But the kind Steve Jobs had, neuroendocrine, is slow and treatable if you’re not an “alternative health” idiot. It’s likely that’s what she has.
Despite some personal turmoil, I remain hopeful for the future for both my family and for our nation. Impeachment exposed Trump’s corruption, but the confluence of a pandemic, a financial crisis and the stoking of societal divisions has roused the soul of the American people. A groundswell is building that will issue a mandate to reject hate and bigotry and a return to the ideals that set the United States apart from the rest of the world. I look forward to contributing to that effort.
In retirement from the Army, I will continue to defend my nation. I will demand accountability of our leadership and call for leaders of moral courage and public servants of integrity. I will speak about the attacks on our national security. I will advocate for policies and strategies that will keep our nation safe and strong against internal and external threats. I will promote public service and exalt the contribution that service brings to all areas of society.
Yes, I did. Thanks. I picked it up on Alternet. I got the sense that to Congressman Lewis doing the right thing was a simple, albeit profound, thing. I have the feeling Lt Col Vindman hears the same drummer.
@zoe_richards: It’s bad enough when conservative is misused about politicians, but it’s an enormity to misuse it about appeals judges. The press should not adopt the idioms and appellations insisted upon by the Republican Party and its allies, yet it does so consistently. Don’t fall into that trap. The word is radical.
Can the Republicans even try to get a new Supreme Court justice this year? That would be a tough sell even for them. It’s already August. Good health to RBG.
I just think there is nothing Mitch wouldn’t do to ram a nominee through up until his very last day holding the gavel. He would definitely do it if given the chance, and what amount of outcry could stop him? I think we all just hope we’ll never have to find out.
