Who Santos Is Surrounding Himself With

This has gotten bit of attention on the margins in the past couple of weeks, but the staff Santos is assembling points in the direction of him taking a hard-right MAGA track

It’s probably a pretty short list of which congressional staffers will take the gig.

Opinion | Biden just outmaneuvered MAGA Republicans — and they barely noticed - The Washington Post (archive.ph)

If President Biden rolls out a major new pro-immigrant policy, and MAGA Republicans don’t make any noise about it, did the announcement happen at all?

Why, yes, it did. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas unveiled an initiative on Friday that would extend more protection against deportation to undocumented immigrants who report labor rights violations by employers.

What explains the quiet response? It might be that this change creates an awkward political situation for the anti-immigrant right, one that says a good deal about its ideology and its limitations.

Here’s why: This policy attempts to align the interests of undocumented workers with those of native-born workers. For some on the right, casting those interests as irrevocably in conflict has been essential to their project. This zero-sum agitprop packages the nativist impulse to drastically limit immigration as all about protecting the American worker.

Meanwhile in other things happening in the world besides that bozo, Santos.

Ukraine’s interior minister was among at least 15 people killed on Wednesday morning when a helicopter crashed near a nursery outside Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said.

Officials said nine people on board the aircraft and six on the ground, including three children, were killed when the French-made Super Puma helicopter crashed in a residential area in the suburb of Brovary on the capital’s eastern outskirts. Earlier, officials had given an initial death toll of 18.

The regional governor said 29 other people were injured, including 15 children.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called the crash a terrible tragedy, saying the full casualty toll was still being determined and he had ordered an investigation.

“As of this minute, three children died. The pain is unspeakable,” he said in a statement.

At the scene, debris was scattered over a muddy playground and emergency workers milled about a fleet of ambulances.

Judge: Jan. 6 rioter who broke into Capitol followed “Trump’s instructions” (axios.com)

A federal judge said Tuesday that a California woman who breached the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection “followed then-President Trump’s instructions” in breaking the law.

The big picture: Kollar-Kotelly’s words echo rhetoric in the House Jan. 6 select committee’s final report, which alleges that Trump engaged in a “multi-part conspiracy to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 Presidential election.”

Wyoming lawmakers say they got what they wanted with proposal to ban EVs | The Hill

The joint resolution states that electric vehicles will hurt the oil and gas industries in Wyoming, which the resolution says employ thousands of people.

“The proliferation of electric vehicles at the expense of gas-powered vehicles will have deleterious impacts on Wyoming’s communities and will be detrimental to Wyoming’s economy and the ability for the country to efficiently engage in commerce,” the joint resolution reads.

“The claim that I swindled a disabled vet with a dying dog is fake news. I was raising $3000 on gofundme for another Sapphire, a hooker with a heart of gold, to fund a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive because I needed a beard for some political-related events.” - George Santos

(fun fact: Pretty Woman screen play was originally called “3,000”)

Wouldn’t it have made more sense to put him on the Monkey Business and Science Fiction committees? Or on a Select Committee to Investigate George Santos? It creeps me out to know that he’s in an adjoining district that I used to live in. How did he manage to beat an actual Jew? The district he ran in is somewhat more conservative (read: affluent and white) than typical Dem districts, but not THAT much more conservative. The whole business of Dems losing so many seats in blue NY, including this one, stinks to high heaven and I strongly suspect that there’s a lot more to this than just his district. I sense a Watergate-level story here that could potentially turn the house. And wouldn’t that be just lovely and just?
