From Expired Munitions To Civilians Delivering Supplies, Capitol Police IG Details Failures | Talking Points Memo

During the Jan. 6 Capitol breach, when officers from Washington, D.C’s Metropolitan Police Department came to help the overwhelmed U.S. Capitol Police, something interesting happened: MPD started using the types of “less-lethal” weapons than the Capitol Police had been barred from using and rioters… started leaving.

Bolton wanted to emphasize that despite any shortcomings in preparation, all officers did have one bullet in their shirt pocket.

Trump Industries issued a press statement stating total confidence in the ammunition and shields they supplied on their no-bid contract, and blamed any supply or quality control problems on Hillary Clinton.

Civilians delivering supplies meant for police through a violent crowd.

What could go wrong? s/

Bolton said that an assistant deputy chief in the Capitol Police, who he did not name, gave the order not to use certain “less-lethal” weapons because they could cause life-altering injury or death if they were misused.

This fits with earlier reporting that one of the reasons the National Guard wasn’t called in sooner is that they wanted to avoid a repeat of the bad optics from the previous summer’s protests. Zero threat recognition ability.

Wow. Seems like someone(s) let the CP down over the years. Hopefully this is the wakeup call that will protect the Congress from more seditious nonsense?

OT:
Chauvin invoked the 5th amendment and will not testify. The defense rests. Closing statements Monday.

And the link to join TPM prime with the discount of 40% does not work. It brings me to an NRA meeting article from 2013. Is that a hint that a Second Amendment solution may be necessary?

Yeah, sort of like Pearl Harbor cemented in the minds of Congress, our intelligence agencies and the military to never let a calamitous attack occur again on our soil.

And I’ll stand on record that this line of reasoning is merde. Vraiment!

“They’re very painful, these types of munitions.”

More painful to a Trump supporter than not getting a COLA in their farm subsidy check…

While getting a Proud Bois tattoo on their nano-goulies…

As they down more White Claw to numb the ache of yet another dateless year…

So the VA and MD National Guards weren’t given permission to enter DC right away. The DC National Guard wasn’t allowed to deploy right away. The DCPD wasn’t allowed to help right away. The Capitol Police weren’t fully mobilized and not allowed to use certain weapons. I hope someone is going to hold those decision makers accountable.

If the Jan 6 riots had been BLM, do you think they would have worried about the optics and restricted the Capitol Police in the same way?

The more we find out the more it looks like what we saw. Their hands were tied behind their backs for the obvious attack that was going to happen. It could of gone much worse.

I am quite certain that if BLM protesters were openly planning to storm the Capitol and disrupt the Electoral College count, they would have been met with overwhelming force that would have been deployed upon the slightest pretext.
