All of those decisions need to be backtracked to their origin. My guess is a tie, direct or indirect, to the WH.

With so many involved in this attack on the capitol, I’ve got to believe that someone is talking to the feds and giving them inside info.
ETA: When I wrote this I was speculating. Since then, two guys pleaded guilty and are spilling the beans, singing like a canary, squealing, dropping a dime, ratting out they guys, forgetting omerta.

Odd analogy… as many in Congress were aware that the US should prepare for war prior to the Pearl Harbor attack, and actively supported FDR’s attempts to arm for entry into WWII. I’m pretty sure that most of the folks in Congress in 1941 were just as clueless about Capitol Police capabilities, just as the Congress also was woefully underinformed about CP capabilties on Jan 6 80 years later.
A good analogy might be the Vatican Guard. They have a room with military gear – rifles, battle dress, etc. I didn’t know until recently that the CP have riot gear and riot wpns, but were told not to deploy them.
