It appears longtime Fox News host Shep Smith’s departure from the network was just the beginning.
Neither Herridge, nor Shep Smith will be missed by the Fox News audience. In the words of the great Terry Pratchett: “People don’t want “news”, they want “olds”, which is a confirmation of what they already knew” .
It looks like the real journalists at Fox have decided to leave, which will make it even more of a propaganda shop than it is…at some point that’s going to require confrontation, because we can’t survive a national media powerhouse that subsists on telling lies. We’re at the edge of it now, and that’s largely due to Fox blasting out Republican lies most of the time…at some point they must be held accountable for their behavior.
I understand that Baghdad Bob and the ghost of Josef Goebbels are looking for work, so I’d suppose Fox won’t have any trouble finding replacements for their lost ‘news’ staff.
Wow…I used to work with Catherine at another network and she always seemed so bright and balanced and trustworthy. I always wondered what she was doing at Fox. But I guess it may have been a situation where something that started as a bad odor turned into an unbearable stench. Congrats Catherine…and best of luck!
If Fox had any class, every opinion show would have a caveat at the beginning and the end, read by the host. The caveat would say that this show is not to be confused with journalism and that it is strictly for entertainment purposes only, and go on to say that actual news should be sought out from news programs and a variety of other sources, including newspapers. Yes, Maddow should do it, also. But Fox News is the name of their network, with many shows that clearly are not news, so it’s most important there to explain that to viewers.
Herridge was another of the few reasonable voices on Faux, so I’m not sure whether to be happy for her or to regret that her old network will become even more of an unquestioning megaphone for Aged Orange and his cult.
Well, now we know where Devin Nunes will end up after he is pounded in the 2020 election.
“Fox News’ WELCOMES it’s NEW chief intelligence correspondent; Devin Nunes! Former Chair of the House Intelligence Committee!”
A hint of decent humanity and a smidgen of journalistic integrity would make the Faux News people leave. But by and large, Faux News people have NO humanity nor integrity, so they stay and boost the Criminal-In-Chief!
GOOd riddance. TherE is No Room at Fox foR thiS ridiculousness.
Good for her, but couldn’t someone have picked a better photo of her? So who’s next, for being insufficiently suck-upee to Trumpie, Wallace? Kurtz? Griffin?
She beat the Benghazi drum for 2 years. Hard to be a legit reporter and get something that wrong for that long unless it’s bias.
Every Fox viewer I know is an idiot who lives for bias confirmation. I know that there are “smart” ones, but they’ve got a screw or two loose somewhere about this or that matter and Fox is their way of self-medicating. E.g. passed up for a promotion to a woman and/or PoC, publicly called out and humiliated on their racism or sexism and unable to own up to and deal with it, terrified of being outed, hiding some dark secret, etc. Fox is the network of racists, misogynists, idiots, losers and broken people.
I think I found the insurmountable obstacle in your premise…
I think the difference between the Fux viewer and those of us watching Hayes, Maddow etc. is we know we are getting a slightly liberal slant vs the swallowing crazy conspiracy BS as facts crowd.
Also, MSNBC, CNN etc. do run stories critical of Ds.
Which brings up the next question, why would CBS hire her?
That is my concern with FOX people leaving to join other networks like CBS is that CBS is pandering to FOX viewers much like the NYT did when it helped lie America into the Iraq War, hype Hillary’s emails to get Donald Trump elected, hype all the zero plus zero “scandals: from Whitewater to Monica”, and many more including the case of Wen-Hoe Lee (thanks to Cervantes as I forgot about that one).
The point being that CBS like most of the so called “mainstream” news as Paul Krugman documented in his most recent column has a clear right-wing bias (Krugman confined it to economic issues but acknowledged it goes well beyond economics) and my concern is the hiring of FOX not as shameless political hacks as Sean Hannity will not only continue that right wing bias but likely will increase it.
well for FOX they matter - because they get in the way.
Certainly no fan of Fox News and Herridge may, indeed, have included “facts matter” in her statement as a subtle dig, though the most direct interp of her statement is that it’s a straightforward values statement.
But it’s quite disingenuous of TPM to include it in the hedline, thereby strongly implying that she left Fox because of some overt conflict with the network. At best, TPM is serving up clickbait. At worst, it’'s being willfully misleading.
Or, like Trump himself, in the absence of competent people, they’ll implode and finally cross lines that may cost them all the diehards in their audience.
Ha! Who am I kidding? They’ll just get more ratings than ever.
GG lost a ton of credibility with me and others when he started going after these networks’ left-leaning types, not just with honest and legitimate criticism, which no one’s above, but with vicious, nasty, condemnatory attacks that questioned their core credibilities. That’s when I started smelling something fishy about his pieces, and stopped taking him seriously. Interestingly, he’s been basically silent for months now, especially since the Ukraine story broke.
