Florida GOP Lawmakers Use Last Days Of Legislative Session To Attack Trans Rights

Florida’s state legislature approved a flurry of anti-“woke” bills on Wednesday, banning college diversity programs and preventing schools from being required to use pronouns that don’t correspond to one’s sex.

Republicans pass a law requiring people use a bathroom that doesn’t match their gender. It would be amusing if it wasn’t so evil.

It’s getting so crazy that I fully expect Ron DeSantis to announce his presidential intentions from a men’s bathroom.

“You have no idea what you’re doing here because you can’t think past your hatred,” state Rep. Kelly Skidmore (D-Boca Raton) said on the floor, “and you can’t think past your discrimination.”

She really could’ve stopped at the point of ‘you can’t think’…

Not sure why, but I have the feeling that all of this bullshit is starting to turn for them - that is, it’s not working so well.

“There’s not anything in the language of this bill that is targeting any specific group,” state Sen. Erin Grall (R-Fort Pierce), who introduced the bathroom bill, claimed on the floor. “Rather, it speaks to the differences that we have as different sexes, as male and female.”

One thing I forget to bring up is that in my time working at Borders, in three different locations, I would routinely go use the women’s restroom and find a father with his young daughter, or even a father with young sons in the women’s restroom. We didn’t have a “family restroom” like you can see now in some places. I never heard any woman complain about this.
Though I did he some horror stories from male co-workers about the men’s restroom. Mostly about what pigs men can be.

Who is going to pay for the restroom attendants? Or the potty police?

I think perhaps the first admonishen across the threshold by my bride (with 3 older brothers) was "No missin’ when you’re pissin!!’

Not so many "missin’ when you’re pissin’ comments, more along the lines of shall we say “Dude WTF were you eating” comments.

First off, we need to define “WOKE” the way DeSantis does in his policies, anything that threatens White Christian male privilege.

Secondly, are Republicans retreating from Trump plain speech back to coded messaging:

“There’s not anything in the language of this bill that is targeting any specific group,” state Sen. Erin Grall (R-Fort Pierce), who introduced the bathroom bill, claimed on the floor. “Rather, it speaks to the differences that we have as different sexes, as male and female.”

I mean Ronald Reagan never said the “N” word but his supporters did and new what Reagan meant.

But as has been pointed out now for weeks and was best said by Paul Krugman, DeSantis and Republicans ARE NOT attacking education because it advances liberal or “woke” ideologies. Rather, Republicans ARE attacking education because it fails to maintain the bias and ignorance Republicans like De’Santis need to maintain to advance their political careers and otherwise gain and hold power.

Why are they so consumed by where someone relieves themselves?

That is for Whites only.

More the point, they can’t think beyond their cynicism. This is all about pandering to bigots to gain short-term political advantage.

It does seem more like an act of intimidation and othering than a realistic policy. Women have acknowledged on other threads that they’ve popped into the men’s room when there’s a line for the women’s, and I suspect that no one is going to press charges against any of them (whoever even has cause?).

It also seems so hard to enforce (or even tell when it’s being violated a lot of the time) it’s just to make the “anti-woke” statement and not to be actually strictly prosecuted. In the end, it’s a nuisance law that can only do harm while providing relief to no one.
