Florida’s GOP officials will stop at nothing to prevent ex-felons from regaining the right to vote.
Today has been a hard news day.
The next few months will have more.
Thank you Mr Bloomberg for exposing the hypocrisy of the Florida GoP.
Vote as if your democracy depended on it!
I’ll just drop off this line from The Honorable Chief Justice Roberts’ opinion in Shelby v. Holder.
“Regardless of how to look at the record no one can fairly say that it shows anything approaching the ‘pervasive,’ ‘flagrant,’ ‘widespread,’ and ‘rampant’ discrimination that faced Congress in 1965, and that clearly distinguished the covered jurisdictions from the rest of the nation.”
Nice to know, isn’t it?
That Atlantic article disclosing that Trump is working with GOP led legislatures to have them name their own slate of electors, rather than accepting the electors from the vote, seems more and more closer to the truth.
Florida’s government will most certainly move to invalidate legally valid Democratic votes in order to name Trump the winner of Florida. When this happens in Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, etc., and we slide into a dictatorship we all need to have a plan for what we will do.
I was just waiting for this shoe to drop…coming from Florida’s biggest heel.
THUD.
Investigate Bloomberg for what crime?
By the same logic
Clearly vehicular deaths aren’t like they used to be. These seatbelt laws need to go.
The Florida statute forbids offering an incentive to vote, But that’s not what Bloomberg is doing here. He is paying off their fines WHETHER OR NOT THEY VOTE. Some of the people so helped will vote and some won’t.
That is what they are trying to figure out
Typical redneck “law enforcement:” round up the usual suspects, jail 'em, then hang 'em, . . . trials later.
Or Dick Cheney Hunting…
“Ready, Fire, Aim…”
Offering incentive not to vote, on the other hand…
I’m not sure Bloomberg couldn’t buy Florida.
They may not want to poke the bear.
Or outright trying to block a vote whether it be poll watchers, gerrymander , derailing a voter initiative using the courts and our tax dollars .
The Republicans are the ones committing the crimes
As the late, great RBG said in her blistering dissent, gutting the voting rights act is like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm
because you aren’t getting wet.
I agree the shitstorm of impediments and distractions will continue to build, but the news today was not all bad. Respected polls taken since RBG’s passing show Biden well positioned, even some movement in his direction.
Take what we can for encouragement.
Burn it all down and never stop burning it all down until we have assured that they and their future generations will forever live in mortal fear of the rest of us. We failed to do that starting in 1865 and this is where it got us.
Just tonight:
@BrianKarem
: Do you commit to making sure there is a peaceful transfer of power?
: We’re going to have to see what happens…Get rid of the ballots, there won’t be a transfer, they’ll be a continuation.
And the rest of the press corps began asking about Harry and Megan.
Our system of justice all the way from the police, the prosecutors and the courts has become incredibly corrupt. The courts have become instruments for personal vendetta and profit.
A rather Putinesque admission.
