If Felons in Florida were not predominately Black or inclined to vote for Democrats none of this would be happening. That’s what’s going down. The 11th court is in on that so here we go. DeSantis will be reelected and that will encourage more of his “semi-fascism” and authoritarianism.

Trump may be a POS but DeSantis is a SMART one and HE can do so much more damage.

DeSantis sent out his goon squad to - by hook or by crook - get him a bunch of pelts to nail up on a wall to allow DeSantis to point to & decry the way the “varmints” are gnawing their way into the voting system -
DeSantis greenlighted any techniques that would get him his pelts - even if they had to lie, cheat, deceive, entrap - and otherwise essentially destroy the remaining lives of individuals who has seriously & sincerely reformed and were seeking to lead productive live - DeSantis did not care - he has a point to prove & needs “scapegoats” to hold up as villains.

Don’t be fooled by DeSantis. He’s not all that bright. He’s able to pull his act off in Florida because of the broken politics here. He has ZERO chance of winning a nationwide election.

Puts all this time and energy and taxpayer dollars into preventing 20 Democratic votes. Puts massive time and energy into making sure more people die from Covid. Does nothing to help anyone. Enemy of humanity and all forms of life.

I seem to recall folks saying the same thing about a certain Orange Florida Man. And we don’t install presidents by the number of votes they get. We install them based on the number of electoral votes each state gets. It’s the way we’ve been installing scary republicans for at least two decades, now.

Except for the FACT that the only ones to be swept up would be Rethugliklans, I wonder why the evil Ron DeSantis (not to be confused with the good Rhonda Santis, the drag queen) hasn’t targeted the hotbed of voter fraud known as The Villages?

From the WaPo story:

The Villages is an odd place. That’s by design; the increasingly expansive retirement community just northwest of Orlando was created to serve as a simulacrum of an America that never really existed.

So it’s fitting that the Villages should now be the epicenter of a small outbreak of America’s second-most-commonly detected affliction: voter fraud.

I’m surprised that there isn’t another law suit challenging repayment of fines and other court costs. The state passed this law, fine, so since the entities owed the monies from the cost of arresting, charging, and the ensuing court cases brought against the defendants are owed monies, then isn’t the state’s job to collect it? And for that to happen they must create a system of collect the amounts due, from all venues that are owed.

Some good lawyering, and juries, could solve this pretty quickly. It’s a catch-22: you can’t vote if you owe fines, but we can’t figure out IF you owe fines. Just imagine the testimony.

I do think that the short stature and whiny voice would make DeSantis unlikely to succeed in a national election. Not his intelligence. The guy is sharp as a whip and should not be underestimated. Be thankful we don’t have a man like him running the GOP House instead of Kevin McCarthy, a true dummy.

The EC is essentially the first derivative of the popular vote. DeSantis will not take either. You analogy with Trump fails in that Trump was a novice with no political experience running on wild claims of doing great things. Nothing to judge him by. DeSantis will run on what he’s done and what we’ve seen of him.

Had Florida’s Democarts selected someone other than a retread to run against DeSantis there’s a good chance DeSantis would lose.

Reading this and the article about the attack on Mayor Pete reminds me how important this election has become. This November is either the beginning of a renewed America or the end of America as we know it. The GOTV is so important this year. As a gay couple we are looking into moving to Europe if we don’t win big this November. I am well aware of what happened in Europe after WWI and I am not going to be tortured to death as a 70+ year old gay man for being who I am. I have fought for Civil Rights in America since my teenage years in the 60’s.

The system in Florida is truly some sort of dystopian Bar-Lounge of a sort of “Hotel California” -

you are running a tab … you can ask what the total is because you want to arrange to pay - But -they tell you that they can’t really give you a precise figure … and even if you recount every item ordered & total it up - and put that money in the bartender’s hand …
you will be arrested when you walk out the door - because there were additional fees that you never knew existed - like a fee for “closing out the bill” … “use of restroom fee” … “entertainment fee” for viewing the TV over the bar…
… and now you will be charged for theft of goods and services … which will be deemed a felony because of some obscure law that make crimes committed after 11:00PM - in an establishment that serves alcohol - to be treated as a felony .

In the primary last month Florida Democrats voted for Charlie Crist over Nicki Fried.

This is easily a Federal RICO case to prosecute all those enforcers - including DeSantis - who lured and ensnared people under color of law to deny them their civil rights.
