Filibuster Devotees Rob Democrats Of Any Leverage In Debt Ceiling Standoff

Democrats, steaming over what they see as abject Republican hypocrisy and recklessness over the debt ceiling, are trying really hard not to capitulate to the opposition party.

At least they got the caption right.

And now proceeds the downfall of the country. It starts with this and continues through voting rights.

I don’t know what it’s going to take to get this process under control again. I don’t think we have until 2022 and there’s no guarantee that the election would result in a win for Congress to go blue. On voting rights, the clock is running out as States change their maps to benefit those in charge and the courts are just as bad.

I just don’t understand how there is any American that thinks this is a good idea.

That kind of win-at-all-costs tactic, though, is not the usual Democratic way.

now that we have identified the problem…

Why is it that Kyrsten Sinema always dresses like she’s going to a cocktail party?

I really think Josh Marshall pegged her exactly right as a preening clown.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) asked for unanimous consent Tuesday on a bill to suspend the debt limit, first giving a press conference in which he warned Republicans that they’d be considered dishonest and dangerous if they blocked it. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) did, immediately.

Well, to be fair, McConnell chuckled, first.

The caption is spot on in my opinion. Her support for the filibuster as it presently is constructed shows she’s no democrat. Now if the filibuster was limited to a senator talking until they dropped that’s one thing but holding legislation hostage and killing it from a minority position because you can…well that ain’t democracy.
Somehow the House muddles thru without this bullshit. Then again McConnell’s not a House member. He is thoroughly vile.
Sinema serves until Jan 3rd 2025

“McConnell appears completely unbowed by the threat, confident in the recalcitrance of Manchin and Sinema.”

Duh. Know that smug little grin McConnell is wearing all the time? Yeah…that’s him internally gloating over knowing who could be bought and sending the right people to them with their checkbooks open.

Sinema is meeting donors today who are set against one or another of the various bills. Just guess what she will do.

Amongst the promises in danger of being reneged upon due to the filibuster are such elements as:

  • Protection for Women’s Civil Rights
  • Police Reform
  • Infrastructure Week/Month/Year/Century
  • SCOTUS Reform
  • The full faith and credit of the USA

Manchin’s a white southern moron and coward looking out for his interests, but I’m increasingly of the opinion that Sinema is a malignant narcissist and possibly even sociopath given her atrocious behavior during all these crises. It’s like she literally couldn’t give a rat’s ass about other people and only cares about herself. That’s the functional definition of sociopath, I believe. We all know such people, who are shockingly unmoved by the plight and suffering of others. She fits that. I don’t believe that it’s about ideology or political purity, especially since she was for ending the filibuster not that long ago. I think that’s just a cover for justifying actions she believes serve her and only her interests. How do we get rid of her while protecting our majority?

Gains elsewhere (WI) would help neuter both of the DINO clowns.

I sincerely wish the voters in America and its various states had more clear eyed rational sense when in the voting booth. At the moment they are in large part a fucking embarrassment to me.

Hey, what’s more important, those minor, silly things, or the Sanctity of the Main Instrument of Racist, Sexist and Classic Oppression in the US? Er, I mean the filibuster.

“Whah without it, the Senate wouldn’t be all…Senate-y” - Turtleface and Manchin both

But all we really need is reform that forces them to debate and be present during one.

i.e. Let’s Really Bring Back the Filibuster, Joe

Getting rid of her either by Article 1 section 5 or better still to protect the majority, the voting booth
The relevant clause in the Constitution reads… “Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior and with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member.”
Two thirds ain’t gonna happen.

Alternative is to ban subversive and patently false media like Mr. Smith goes to Washington, so that there aren’t these hideous misperceptions about what’s actually going on.
